Chapter 573: Red Skull's Revenge

2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit

Dawn. Warm sunlight scattered across the land.

People went about their respective tasks as usual. Ordinary people worked, and superheroes fought Parademons.

People hurrying along the streets were drawn in by the shocking news headlines.

"Shocking! Clark Kent Cuckolded by Superman!"

"Superman: 'I Just Found True Love, It's That Simple.'"

"A Certain Man's Words Reveal an Astonishing Secret!"

"A Single Sentence from Earth's Strongest Man Leaks a Heavenly Secret! Was She the Real Goal All Along?!"

"Pictures Don't Lie! A Story That Will Make Humans Weep and Parademons Shed Tears!"

"...Yes, Clark Kent is an employee at our Daily Planet. He's a good kid—works diligently every day, and always clocks in on time. I've never seen a more hardworking employee... You're asking about Lois Lane? She mentored Clark when he first joined a few years ago. They're very good partners..."

"A couple? Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not familiar with the details. You've come to the wrong person."

Lately, the Daily Planet in Metropolis had been incredibly busy. Their boss, whom they called Laurence, was torn. Although he felt guilty about the whole thing with that silly kid Clark, his hands were tied. The newspaper was responsible for sales and for putting food on the table for its hundreds of employees.

The fact that Clark and Lois Lane had taken leave at the same time was seen as solid confirmation of the shocking news.

Someone had posted a photo online of Superman holding Lois Lane, flying through the night sky. It was like a nuclear bomb had been dropped on the media world.

Experts repeatedly analyzed it and confirmed the photo was not a fake. Lois Lane of the Daily Planet had indeed been won over by Superman.

Everyone was buzzing as if they'd been shot with adrenaline. Countless people swarmed the Daily Planet, trying to find Lois Lane and Clark. But when they discovered the two hadn't come to work, they simply cornered Laurence in an attempt to find out the truth.

Laurence said with a serious expression, "That story is fake. We always enjoy discussing falsehoods as if they were true. I understand this satisfies our readers' curiosity for the bizarre, but it's not what a qualified media professional should do. It's shameful."

"But someone took a picture! And the picture is real!" someone shouted.

"The photo might be real, but the story behind it is false," Laurence said calmly. "Forget the rest of the world—just in Metropolis, how many citizens has Superman rescued and carried to safety? Hundreds, if not thousands. Lois Lane simply encountered some Parademons and was rescued by Superman. It's as simple as that."

Many were unwilling to give up and continued to press him, trying to dig up the truth, but they got nothing. Laurence was tight-lipped.

After escaping the crowd, Laurence took out his phone and dialed Clark's home number.

"Clark? Kid, are you feeling any better? Oh, no, you don't need to rush back to work... What, resign? God, I knew something was wrong with you. Listen, you have a long road ahead of you. There are plenty of other good girls in the world waiting for you..."

Laurence felt it was his duty to counsel this good kid who was clearly distraught. He rambled on, recounting his own life experiences from the past few decades, talking about everything from his first love to his divorce, then his remarriage and another divorce.

On the other end, Clark held the phone in silence for a long time before reluctantly hanging up.

In his hands was a stack of newspapers. On the internet, everyone was excitedly discussing the earth-shattering fact that the little reporter from the Daily Planet had been cuckolded by Superman.

Clark quickly scanned the newspapers, then picked up his phone to look at the online comments. Many people were consoling the unknown young reporter.

"So, how does it feel to suddenly be a celebrity? A lot of people are concerned about you."

Diana placed a plate of freshly baked custard pies on the table and naturally untied her apron.

She had come to visit as a friend of Clark's.

Nearby, his adoptive mother, Martha, said with displeasure, "It's her loss! My son is a hero. Clark is, and Superman even more so! Diana, you should try to talk some sense into him. I just feel like he's not thinking straight..."

As Martha spoke, she looked with satisfaction at the generous and beautiful woman. From her appearance, figure, and temperament to her personality, she was simply impeccable—at least, she was far better than Lois Lane.

In Martha's eyes, her son was the best. Since Lois Lane had hurt him, she was no good either.

So what if his appearance has changed? It's not like there's no chance of changing back... And even if he can't, he's still her son!

Clark gently put down his phone and sat at the table. He looked at the steaming custard pies before him and then glanced at Diana, a look of surprise on his face as if amazed she had such a skill.

Martha and Diana chatted, and with her centuries of experience, Diana easily had Martha laughing happily.

It seemed the void left by Lois Lane hadn't plunged the family into further discomfort.

After the meal, Clark, dressed in specially made clothes and wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat, went for a walk in the cornfield—his favorite activity.

The difference was that this time, Diana was there to accompany him.

"Back when my adoptive father was still alive, the three of us would walk through the cornfield every evening, admiring the fruits of our day's labor," Clark said.

"You have good parents, Clark. They love you very much," Diana said with a smile, facing the sun before turning to look at him.

"Of course. They're the best parents in the world, and also the best friends and mentors," Clark said, a curve forming on his lips.

The scene seemed to freeze: the bright sunlight, the vibrant fields, a man and a woman facing the sun.

Then, an inopportune sound rang out.

Both of their expressions changed simultaneously.

Clark took out the phone clipped to his waist. A red alert was flashing frantically, the enlarged red font carrying with it a bloody scent that seemed to leap from the screen.

"Superman, a new enemy is attacking! We've run into new trouble! You have to help us!"

Amidst a violent explosion, a disheveled Agent Coulson ducked for cover while making a video call. He had dialed the special phone in Clark's possession directly, triggering the highest-level alert.

"Where are the Avengers?" Clark asked quickly.

"They're fighting someone who's truly out for revenge... Red Skull is back! The supreme leader of Hydra, that damned officer, has appeared again! I need your help!"

...

A few hours earlier, at a secret military base, Colonel Stryker's face was livid as he stared at the man before him.

"Who the hell are you? Red Skull died eighty years ago! Is this plastic surgery? Are you a clone? Or did you inject yourself with the same super-serum that Red Skull used?" Colonel Stryker quickly regained his composure and asked.

"I am who I am. I am Red Skull. I'm just here to take back what was originally mine! Colonel Stryker, join me, or die!"

Opposite Stryker, Red Skull slowly walked out of the darkness, a cold smile on his face, revealing his blood-red, fleshless face—sinister and terrifying.
