Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Empire State Building (Revised)

October 19, 2022 Author: Great Demon Spirit

I am Spider-Man, a superhero of New York City.

I'm New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, a good role model for students worldwide. I enjoy helping others, fighting thieves and robbers, and especially helping old ladies cross the street – I've never been scammed.

A while ago, I participated in an academic exchange group organized by Xavier's School, traveling to nearby Pennsylvania. As a result, something big happened in New York, and the Daily Bugle went crazy slandering me, calling me a coward who fled from battle, even though I was completely innocent.

The Boss of the Daily Bugle is a complete miser, he withholds my salary and relentlessly blasts me – Spider-Man, New York citizens' universally acknowledged good neighbor.

I like to stand on the Empire State Building, gazing over the entire city. This place is rarely visited, with cold winds blowing, and I consider it a Sacred Land specially reserved by God for me to contemplate life.

A beautiful, pure, and peaceful Sacred Land.

Until I met that guy, this place ceased to be my exclusive preserve.

He told me I was still too young.

...

"Smells so good, so good."

Spider-Man, holding a freshly bought hot dog, quickly climbed to the top of the Empire State Building. He loved it here. Every time he went out as Spider-Man, whether excited, disappointed, or lost, he would come here to quietly gaze into the distance, and his heart would miraculously find peace. This was his Sacred Land; few people came here, and he liked to keep good things in places that suited his mood.

Like this hot dog.

The shop next to the Daily Bugle sold the most delicious hot dogs, and it was the most affordable place in all of New York with the best service.

"Smells so good, so good!"

Tossing the hot dog from his left hand to his right, and then back to his left, Spider-Man repeated his daily routine, never tiring of it.

Then he suddenly noticed someone else on the other side of the ledge, and he was greatly surprised. Aside from the occasional tours or cleaning work organized by Xavier's School and staff, this was the first time he'd seen someone all alone up here.

He scratched his head and slowly approached, feeling he should say hello and share insights on life's beliefs, showcasing the friendly nature of Spider-Man, the good citizen.

"Hey, buddy... what are you doing???" Spider-Man moved closer to say hello, but the scene he saw left him a bit bewildered.

This person was constantly taking out one photo after another, folding them into paper airplanes, and launching them into the distance.

The strong winds at high altitude, beyond ordinary imagination, easily propelled these paper airplanes, carrying special meaning, towards the unknown distance.

Tony threw out a freshly folded paper airplane. Hearing the voice, he turned his head indifferently. Seeing a cross-dresser in a full red bodysuit, he immediately understood who this person was, realizing the situation, and his tensed body gradually relaxed.

"This is the Empire State Building, the famous Empire State Building of New York, a world-renowned landmark of New York City! How can you just litter... did something happen?" Spider-Man casually sidled closer.

"I know this is the Empire State Building."

Tony's face was expressionless as he scrutinized the cross-dresser from head to toe, then turned his head away and said coldly, "No one said you can't fly photos from the Empire State Building."

"But no one's ever done that before..." Spider-Man spread his hands.

Tony ignored him, straightened his clothes, and narrowed his eyes, gazing into the distance. It was said that from the top of the Empire State Building in New York, you could see five other states.

As a landmark of New York City, on par with the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building commanded a high vantage point, overlooking the entire city. Its design was grand and impressive, truly possessing exceptional qualities that refreshed one's mind.

Spider-Man had calmed down, realizing this person before him was unusual.

How did he get up here? The door to this Rooftop was clearly locked tight; one only needed to look back to know.

"Hey, how did you get up here? It's so high, and you're so short... I mean, compared to this building, you're too short, just a little dwarf... even though you're over six feet tall, you're still a little dwarf..." Spider-Man jumped over, asking curiously.

"Then how did you get up here?"

"I climbed up."

"What a coincidence, I climbed up too."

Tony earnestly told him that this building was very, very tall. He could take the elevator to a high floor, then squeezed out through a vent, and climbed up a section of the wall.

Spider-Man's response was "Nonsense." Could the Empire State Building belong to your family? And how did you climb up the wall? You weren't bitten by a spider too, were you, giving you the ability to climb walls?

Pure nonsense.

"It's not that I don't believe you, it's just too unbelievable. If your talent for lying was half as thick as your skin, that'd be something... Alright, I just don't believe you..." Spider-Man babbled on.

"Can you get down?" Tony suddenly asked.

Spider-Man was a bit confused, subconsciously replying, "Of course, it's easy. If I can climb up, I can certainly jump down. Anyway, you still haven't told me the truth, you're so rude."

Tony ignored him, continuing to fold photo after photo. They were photos entrusted with longing.

Spider-Man groaned, completely out of words and even the strength to hit someone. How could there be such a brazen and shameless person in this world?

Not far from the Empire State Building, a small drone brazenly flew around, taking everything in.

Tony had noticed it early on. He initially thought it was a detector sent out by some organization or agency. If he wanted to, he could transform this little thing into a Transformer.

But he realized he was wrong; this drone was chasing Spider-Man. Wherever Spider-Man went, the drone followed, acting extremely arrogantly, not bothering to hide itself.

In the distance, at the Daily Bugle headquarters, the Boss of the newspaper, Jameson, watched the transmitted video with shining eyes, thrilled and laughing loudly.

Although the screen was silent, he had already automatically reconstructed all the dialogue in his mind – a basic quality for a media professional.

You trash, Spider-Man! I've finally got big dirt on you!

"Parker! Parker! Peter Parker! I have urgent matters for you to handle... Where is he? Did that bastard skip work again? I'm going to dock his pay!" Jameson yelled.

With a series of orders rapidly issued, the decisive, hot-tempered Big Boss Jameson summoned a large group of people, gave his commands, and unusually drafted the article himself. The headline he had long prepared:

"Spider-Man's Shock!"
