Chapter 701: Subordinate God: Shazam!
2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit
More than ten years ago, Tony went to great lengths to seek revenge on Hulk. At that time, he was very weak, and under the guise of a Mutant, he searched everywhere for power.
When he finally stepped onto the land of Kamar-Taj and became an apprentice under the Ancient One, he naturally coveted the Power of Shazam, a system in no way inferior to Kamar-Taj.
Even more so, the Power of Shazam held greater value for Tony at that time—far surpassing the utility Kamar-Taj offered him—because the Power of Shazam was passed down through generations via infusion. Every new Shazam, no matter how weak or useless, could instantly become a powerful individual no less than Superman, simply by taking on the Power of Shazam.
To be honest, Clark really couldn't beat the new Shazam (Shazam); his record showed more losses than wins.
The Power of Shazam had a suppressive effect on Kryptonians' negative Magic Resistance physique, and in terms of power, speed, and neural reflexes, the new Shazam was in no way inferior to Clark, also possessing potent, all-purpose Magic that could be used at will…
For Tony at that time, the Power of Shazam was undoubtedly the most suitable and quickest way to acquire immense power.
But precisely at that time, Tony couldn't find the Rock of Eternity, and even if he had found Shazam, the old man might not have thought highly of him. This old man was very stubborn and looked down on people based on their strength.
Tony surveyed the tattered and dying Shazam, and said lightly, "The Six Gods are dead. Accepting the divine power from the New Gods' One-Above-All is most suitable for you."
Shazam, peering through the gaps in his messy hair, looked at Tony and retorted mildly, "You're like a salesman now, desperately pushing your product on people."
"The key point is that there's only one salesman like me. Miss this chance, and there'll be no next time," Tony said lightly, looking at him.
Shazam was silent for a moment, then asked, "To join your Pantheon, what do I need to do? What am I forbidden to do?"
"Fighting for me is the most basic requirement. Beyond that, nothing. You can continue to do what you want, for example, staying in this dilapidated castle, searching for an heir that meets your expectations, like looking for a needle in a haystack," Tony said.
He truly didn't need Shazam to do anything extra for him, because it wouldn't be necessary.
Although Tony currently bore the title of God-King of the Cybertronian Pantheon, in reality, his claim to being God-King was very superficial; only a handful of individuals under him followed the Divine Power path. Many Transformers were completely uninterested in Divine Power, and the number of those who wanted to become Speed Force Bots and Lantern Ring Bots was far greater than those who wanted to become Divine Power Bots.
This was probably the most pathetic Pantheon in history, a Singular Pantheon initiated and founded by the One-Above-All. It was destined to be nailed to the pillar of shame for all Pantheons to see.
If word got out, the many Ancient Deities would absolutely laugh their heads off.
Tony also felt a bit embarrassed, so he simply seized the opportunity to recruit people himself.
Shazam was the absolute best candidate for a subordinate god, bar none.
Tony looked earnestly at Shazam: "Becoming my subordinate god, you will get a chance to advance further."
Shazam simply nodded. "Then I agree. I only hope you don't go back on your word, because once I become your subordinate god, I won't even have the ability to resist you."
Tony stopped wasting words, nodded, and directly raised his palm. Immense Divine Power surged out from Tony's body, roaring as it poured into Shazam's body.
There was no imagined difficulty or obstruction; rather, it was a seamless process. Tony's One-Above-All Divine Power smoothly completed the replacement and transformation.
Bang!
Shazam's body swelled like an inflated balloon, his old face turning crimson. Soon, Shazam assimilated this new Divine Power; the traces of the Old Gods within him were forcefully erased, and his entire being began to emit the Aura of a New God.
This was the Aura of a Singularity. From now on, the old Shazam would completely vanish, and the new Shazam would become an indelible part of Tony's Pantheon.
The entire Power of Shazam would become part of the new Pantheon.
"Very well, Wizard Shazam. You can go and do what you want. I have hundreds of millions of Life Forms under my command; there will always be an heir that suits your wishes."
Tony suppressed the surprise in his eyes that arose from how smoothly everything had gone, and said calmly.
Shazam stubbornly shook his head. "My heir can only be a Human. I don't care who the next Shazam wants to pass the Legacy to, but for now, I am the primary recipient of this inherited Power, and I will only choose a Human."
"Suit yourself," Tony shrugged indifferently, waved his hand, tearing open a Portal, and turned to leave.
Tony could clearly sense that within his intangible Divine Power system, a powerful individual had been added, second only to himself.
Shazam could also feel this; he could sense the absolute suppression that Tony, the God-King, exerted over him.
But neither of them said much, because there was no need.
Tony, walking through the Portal, mused.
There was a reason why he valued the Power of Shazam. The Power of Shazam was fundamentally an all-purpose tool; anything could be infused into it, and its adaptability was truly terrifying.
In the original work, Darkseid's father, Yuga Khan, after unprecedentedly breaking free from the Source Wall and successfully returning to Apokolips, still had to painstakingly scheme against the Power of Shazam, even though he had just accomplished a feat that countless One-Above-All deities of the past had failed to achieve.
The Ancient Deities currently in the Sphere of the Gods, if compared longitudinally with all Deities that have ever appeared throughout history, were, to put it bluntly, all second- or third-rate beings, because the most formidable ones were all stuck on the Source Wall.
But Yuga Khan achieved it. He became the first Being in history to explore the Source Wall, and after being stuck to it, actually broke free—a truly dreadful Being.
In the future, Yuga Khan would forcibly erase the Six Powers of Shazam within the Power of Shazam, replacing them with his own Source Power, successfully transforming Shazam into a Humanoid self-propelled mobile turret, which he would carry on his shoulder, blasting wherever he pointed.
Yuga Khan would carry Shazam, bombarding the Source Wall, attempting to blow a hole in it, so he could have the chance to study this endless Barrier, which was billions of times more terrifying and mysterious than the Speed Force Wall.
The result was simple: he got stuck again, and then never had a chance to break free for the rest of his life.
Through this tragic and heroic story, starring Yuga Khan, which would unfold in the near future, one could glimpse just how wondrous the Power of Shazam was.
Or rather, Shazam himself was an incredibly wondrous Life Form.
Therefore, Tony had good reason to set his sights on Shazam. In the past, he didn't have the absolute Power to control the Power of Shazam; even if he became Shazam, he would still have to be wary of being captured by some terrifying entity and used as a mobile Turret. But now he had Power, there was absolutely no reason for him to let go of the Power of Shazam.
Shazam had already become his subordinate god, and was a God second only to Tony in the Pantheon.
