Chapter 813: The Fourth Review
The Celestials are a collective with numerous models, each shouldering a vastly different responsibility.
Unlike the Dark Celestials, the servants created by the First Firmament out of sheer boredom back in the day, the current batch are all Colored Celestials. They are the enforcers created in the image of the Dark Celestials when the present Eternity led the Gods to besiege and kill the First Firmament.
Their initial role was similar to Tony's Doomsday King Kong, created solely to fight powerful enemies and alleviate pressure.
But with the death of the First Firmament, Eternity successfully rose to power, becoming the second Eternity. He took on the heavy responsibility of suppressing and maintaining the Multiverse—the evolutionary product of the First Firmament's corpse. The duties of these Colored Celestials changed dramatically, transforming from war machines into enforcers who help Eternity maintain the stability of the Multiverse.
This miraculous transformation was entirely based on Eternity's status.
The Celestials have a peculiar hobby: they wander around the Multiverse, meddling here and there, modifying primitive life forms that pique their interest. Then, after a certain period, they return to review their test subjects.
Those that pass are qualified to enter the next round of selection. Those that fail face genocide.
This time, however, the high-ranking members of the Celestials were mobilized, heading toward the Prime Universe together, standing ready as if facing a formidable enemy.
"The Fourth Review. The risk factor is too high."
"Not only has a New God been born on Earth, but there are also some mutated life forms that could threaten us in the future."
"According to the modular system, this probability shouldn't even exist, yet this change has occurred."
"According to the rules, the New God is also an Earthling. He should be within the scope of our review."
"Prepare for the worst."
The unknown divine words echoed continuously, then abruptly ceased.
A group of towering figures broke through the universal barrier. A powerful aura rapidly spread out, its subtle fluctuations, seemingly from a higher dimension, causing the Prime Universe in the lower dimension to tremble faintly.
There were not many of them, only thirteen figures of various colors. But even the weakest among them faintly emanated an energy signature at the peak of Level Seven.
The one in the lead was the Judge of the Fourth Host, a high-level leader of the Celestials.
His full name is "one above all," or the OAA Celestial for short.
A thousand years ago, it was this very OAA Celestial who led the Fourth Host to Earth, fought a great war with the World Tree Pantheon, and effortlessly crushed the various god-kings.
Back then, Odin, wearing the Destroyer Armor and having single-handedly challenged an entire squad of Celestials, was quickly defeated when facing OAA in person. The two were simply not in the same league.
OAA coldly scanned the information of the Prime Universe, collecting all its history from the last millennium. However, because of Tony, much of the information was incomplete. The closer it got to Earth, and the more closely related things were to Tony, the blurrier it became.
"A disgusting Singular God... This reminds me of the Godkiller."
OAA said in a low voice.
The Celestials have never been invincible. Even in the comics, they have two powerful adversaries.
The first are the Watchers. The Watchers believe in the principle of non-interference, while the Celestials are the exact opposite—their favorite thing is to meddle in others' affairs. Therefore, the relationship between the Celestials and the Watchers is poor, but they can at least maintain restraint and not try to kill each other on sight.
The second are the now-extinct Aspirants. The Aspirants created a terrifying war weapon called the "Godkiller." Standing 7,600 meters tall, it was ten times the size and had ten times the energy reserves of the 600-meter-tall Celestials!
To put it in perspective, even the largest of them, the Destroyer Celestial, was only 6,000 meters tall.
Before the Godkiller, the mighty Celestials were utterly powerless. Even the ten strongest Celestials, including the Sleeping Celestial, were completely dominated by the Aspirants.
Fortunately, after a long and bloody war, and by continuously creating countless members as cannon fodder, the Celestials managed to wear down the Aspirants and drive them to extinction.
The Celestials could trade the lives of innumerable Celestials to take down a single Godkiller, but the Aspirants could not. Their production speed for Godkillers couldn't keep up with their losses. Their expenses outstripped their income, and they were ultimately slaughtered by the Celestials.
This was the most brutal war the Celestials had ever experienced. The ten strongest Celestials were all severely injured, dozens of weaker Level Eight Celestials died in battle, and the number of cannon fodder Celestials sacrificed was countless, demonstrating the terror of the Aspirants.
Of course, in this world, the Celestials had another adversary: the Monitors. In the eyes of the Celestials, there was no difference between the Monitors and the Watchers—both were a bunch of annoying pests. It was just that the Monitors had a more astonishing origin and stronger backing.
After coldly scanning the entire Prime Universe, the OAA Celestial confirmed that the Blackest Night had passed. He also registered the figures of more than ten White Lanterns rapidly traveling between worlds, expelling the residual power of Nekron.
Silently, OAA led the twelve Celestials behind him and headed directly for Earth.
The mission he had received was to review all life forms on Earth, including Tony, to determine if they were satisfactory products.
As for how to review this Singular God, Tony, or how an Earthling even managed to become one, OAA was not overly concerned. All secrets would be unveiled before him.
"Do not alert Tony. First, review all living beings on Earth. See if these test subjects are hiding some mystery that even we haven't discovered... a mystery so profound that it can give birth to a Singular God."
OAA commanded, his six enormous, lightbulb-like eyes flickering, seemingly betraying his excitement.
A test subject casually sown by the Celestials had actually given rise to a Singular God!
And he had ascended to become a Singular God as a native of the Multiverse!
It would be unbelievable if the Celestials didn't have their own ideas about this. Although they were Celestials, they also possessed ambition, as well as strict rules and procedures for magnifying that ambition. Otherwise, they wouldn't so enthusiastically conduct experiments throughout the Multiverse, nor would their relationships with the Watchers and Monitors be so poor.
Greed, or perhaps the thirst for knowledge and the desire to advance further—everyone has it, and the Celestials are no exception.
As a high-ranking member of the Celestials, the OAA Celestial shouldered the great responsibility of reviewing the mysteries of life among Earthlings and exploring the enigma of Tony, the Singular God.
...
The moment a group of beings emanating ancient fluctuations entered the Prime Universe and began unscrupulously scanning everything, Tony, on Cybertron, immediately opened his eyes, his brow furrowed as he looked toward them.
"They're strong... Although their numbers are surprisingly low, only thirteen of them, their leader is very powerful."
Tony raised an eyebrow.
If he had a choice, Tony would rather not clash with the Celestials. But the outcome would depend on the Celestials' decision.
