Chapter 232: The Use of the Artificial Sun
Svartalfheim
"Boom boom boom—"
High in the sky, dozens of Iron Robots patrolled the pitch-black high altitude, blue Plasma Flames spewing from their feet.
In the pitch-black Underworld, where you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, strange screeches occasionally came from high above, accompanied by the roar of Missile explosions fired by the Iron Robots.
Eighty Iron Robots patrolled back and forth in the high altitude within a five-kilometer radius. The sweeping fire from the Heavy Machine Guns and the roar of Missiles never stopped for a moment.
Looking down from high altitude, these Steel Soldiers were guarding a brightly lit complex of buildings on the Mountain Peak.
Simple sheet metal fences surrounded makeshift sheds made from Containers. Inside this temporary Camp that looked like a construction site, huge lighting lamps were hung everywhere, illuminating the entire Camp as if it were daytime.
In the dark Svartalfheim, this was perhaps humanity's best resistance against the Fear of darkness. The best way to overcome the Fear of darkness was to dispel it.
Although the Camp was simple, its Area was very large, occupying more than half of the Mountain Peak, dozens of acres of land.
Sheet metal fences surrounded the entire Mountain Peak. Inside the fences, wooden Watchtowers were erected every few steps. On the Watchtowers, high-power searchlights and Heavy Machine Guns were mounted.
Soldiers in groups of two guarded the Watchtowers, scanning downwards with searchlights to prevent Native Creatures of Svartalfheim from Sneak Attacking the Camp.
"Sniff sniff!"
On a Watchtower, a Big man wearing a black Bulletproof Vest suddenly sniffed, as if he smelled something.
"It's a Bloody Scent. Those Skeletons are hunting again. There must be some Monster that doesn't know better that came down to the Mountain foot!"
Saying this, the Big man swung the searchlight. The thick beam of the searchlight shone directly onto a Mountain Hollow on the Mountainside.
The originally silent Mountain Hollow had now become a bloody slaughterhouse. In the Mountain Hollow, a group of humanoid Half-orcs with pale skin and bodies two sizes larger than Ordinary Persons were frantically trying to escape this Mountain Hollow.
Unfortunately, a group of Skeletons with thick Bone structures and eyes flickering with green Phosphorescent Fire blocked their path. The Claws of these Skeletons were extremely sharp; a casual stab could dig out the Heart of these tough-skinned Half-orcs.
The constantly opening and closing Skull mouths spat out streams of Poison Smoke. Enveloped by the Poison Smoke of these Skeleton Demons, these Native Half-orcs of Svartalfheim immediately turned black and fell to the Ground, unable to get up.
Hundreds of Half-orcs who wanted to Sneak Attack the Human Camp on the Mountain Peak didn't even last three minutes under the Claws of a dozen Skeleton Demons.
"Fuck!"
The Big man looked through his Binoculars and met the Gaze of a Skeleton Demon that had just finished Devouring the Flesh and Blood of a Half-orc.
He watched with his own eyes as the Skeleton Demon extended its Claws and held the Half-orc's Corpse in the air. As its upper and lower jaws opened and closed, the robust Half-orc's entire Flesh and Blood turned into a wisp of Blood Mist and was Devoured into its mouth.
The Skeleton Demon shook its Head in satisfaction. The two small Bone Wings on its back, which looked like a joke, extended slightly after it consumed the Blood Food, and fine Bone grew within the Bone Wings.
Watching the Half-orc held by this Skeleton instantly being Devoured into a Skeleton, the Big man shivered, his Scalp tingling. Especially when this Skeleton Demon seemed to sense his gaze, its Skull rotated 180 degrees on its Spine, and the two clusters of Phosphorescent Fire in its eye sockets met his gaze directly.
Being stared at by two clusters of green Ghost Fire, even though the Big man himself was not an Ordinary Person, he was still scared, his Scalp tingling. His Body instinctively recoiled, and the searchlight in his hand directly deviated from its Direction.
The thick beam of light pierced through the darkness and happened to shine on the Wing of a giant Dark Demon Bat high in the sky. "Da da da da da—"
This Dark Demon Bat was instantly hit by a barrage of fire from the Base's Autocannon and was instantly shot into a Blood Mist by the thick Autocannon Bullets.
"Fuck, this damned place. I knew I shouldn't have come here. It's better to be a Guard in the Dark Black Market!"
Amidst the mockery of his companion beside him, the Big man stood firm, muttering curses and defending himself.
"The Creatures here are even uglier than those Demonic Creatures!"
"We don't look much better when we Transform into Werewolf form, do we?!" The older Soldier beside him slowly took a Cigar from his Pocket and lit it for himself.
"It's much easier here than the Black Market. There are those Robots guarding above, and that group of Skeletons at the Mountain foot. We just have to stay honestly on the Watchtower. You know, the Salary here is three times that of the Black Market, and we don't have to stay with those Bats!"
The older Soldier puffed on his Cigar, explaining to the newcomer who had just been transferred here.
"What exactly are those Skeletons at the Mountain foot? Are they Undead Creatures summoned by those Black Wizards?"
The Big man was a little doubtful. He was originally a Werewolf under Lucien's command and was later transferred to the Black Market managed by Selene to be a Guard.
The Black Market in New York was frequented by Dark Creatures hidden in the Human World: Goblins, Dwarves, Trolls, Elves, Half-orcs, Black Wizards. He had seen a lot during his two years as a Guard.
But he had never seen anything as ferocious as the Skeleton Demons. With a single spit, the Poison Smoke from their mouths could knock down a large area of Half-orcs. Eating people was as easy for them as he ate jelly.
The slightly older Werewolf Soldier exhaled a puff of Cigar smoke and glanced at him sideways.
"You don't need to worry about those Skeletons. They are the Big Boss's Pets. The area within a two-hundred-kilometer radius around the foot of this mountain is the Hunting ground for these Skeletons! Those Native Creatures of Svartalfheim are their Food source. We don't need to worry about them at all!"
"Big Boss!" Hearing the Werewolf Soldier mention Tang Song, the Big man immediately shut his mouth.
This Werewolf Tribe, led by Lucien, had a very strange view of Tang Song. They were subdued by Boss Tang.
Before being subdued by Tang Song, if Lucien hadn't been clever and chosen to surrender, their branch of Werewolves would probably have been wiped out by Boss Tang.
After choosing to surrender, they rapidly expanded with the help of Tang Song's forces, leaping to become one of the largest Dark Races in the entire Federation.
The same went for that group of smelly Bats. Unlike them, that group of Bats, relying on the Boss's Lover, were also thriving in the Underworld of the Federation.
These Bats almost monopolized the Smuggling Business of Blood Banks in the entire Federation's Hospitals. Besides being self-sufficient, this smuggled Blood was also a major Source of profit for the Black Market Business.
