Chapter 389: Bondage Game
Author: Rowing Without Oars 233
Green Lantern: "???"
Things happened so fast he hadn't had time to react. For instance, why had the teammate who should have been walking in front of him suddenly and bizarrely shifted to the side? And for another, how had he suddenly been tied up?
The part about being tied up was also what bewildered him.
A sneak attack was a sneak attack, but he wasn't some magical girl. What was the meaning of tying up a muscular bro like him like this?
"Huh?"
The person who emerged from the darkness seemed a little surprised.
Initially, she thought the Green Lantern was the main force, as Green Lanterns were often seen active on the main battlefields of Apokolips. As for the person next to him, although he was a bit handsome, she had never seen him before. She felt that even if he posed a threat, it shouldn't surpass the Green Lantern's.
But for her covert surprise attack, delivered at such a speed, to have actually been dodged?
She began to realize this person might not be so simple.
"To actually dodge that... you've got some skill."
The New God revealed herself from the shadows. A woman with long, silver-white hair, her Apokoliptian Armor clinging to her curvaceous body. Her skin was snow-white, and her face might have been considered decent...
...if not for that exaggerated tongue.
That's right, even as she spoke, the tongue still extended all the way out of her mouth, making her speech slurred as if she were holding something thick in her mouth. The tongue snaked past Orin Vale, tightly binding the Green Lantern behind him.
This made Alan's expression darken even further.
So this thing was a tongue... which felt even worse.
The Long-tongued Woman sized up the bound Alan, then looked at Orin Vale and giggled. "Heh, you're a type I don't dislike. If possible, I'd rather not kill you. Turning you into slaves for my pleasure is also an option..."
"Thanks, but no thanks." Orin Vale shrugged. "I'm not a fan of the long-tongued type."
"How rude..."
Behind them, Alan's face grew even darker. "Hey, can you two stop chatting? Someone's still tied up here."
Orin Vale found it a little strange. With a Green Lantern's abilities, conventional restraints shouldn't be able to hold him. He had expected Alan to shout "Fear my light!" or something similar a second ago, blast the tongue off his body, and charge forward to take down their opponent.
Yet here he was, still bound.
That meant there were only two possibilities.
First, this certain thick-browed, big-eyed man, who appeared to be a decent fellow on the surface, was secretly enjoying it.
Of course, that could be mostly ruled out...
So, there was indeed something strange about this tongue.
Suddenly, Orin Vale felt a tightness around his body, as if bound by something invisible. He glanced down, and everything seemed perfectly normal. But after using his Ultra Vision to scan through various spectrums, he saw on one of them that the tentacle-like tongue had, at some unknown point, also wrapped around him.
Looking back, he saw its source was still the tongue binding the Green Lantern. After trapping the Green Lantern, one end of the tongue had extended further before turning invisible. It was by maintaining this invisibility and attacking with superspeed at such close range that it managed to catch him off guard.
"Ha, idiot! Once a target is caught by my 'tongue,' they can't escape!" the Long-tongued Woman laughed loudly. "This is my ability! The tongue possesses a resilience that can resist anything, and it can absorb and consume energy at extremely high speeds."
"Stop struggling, Green Lantern. No matter how hard you try, it's absolutely impossible..."
*Swish.*
The soft sound of a sharp weapon cutting through the air.
A fleeting, blinding light made it impossible to open one's eyes. The Long-tongued Woman instinctively shut her eyes, not even seeing what the object was or what her opponent had done.
She only knew that when she opened her eyes again, she saw her pride and joy, that long tongue... had been sliced into seven or eight pieces.
The New God's eyes widened, and she stood stunned for half a second.
Then, as if arriving late, the pain finally hit.
"Arghhhh!!!"
Blood gushed from the severed tongue. She clutched her mouth and fell to her knees, crimson blood spilling from between her fingers. Her eyes, twisted in pain, were still filled with disbelief.
How is this possible?
That was her tongue, her pride and joy!
No man in the world, once ensnared by this tongue, could escape unscathed until he was drained dry.
It could absorb any energy; the fact that even the Green Lantern couldn't break free was clear proof. Its resilience was such that not even the energy blades of Apokoliptian technology could sever it.
Yet, in an instant so fast she couldn't even see what happened, it had been diced into this state!
Only at this moment did she abruptly realize she had been wrong.
She had mistaken which of the two intruders was the sidekick and which was the powerhouse.
And she had paid a terrible price for it.
"You... you..."
Orin Vale didn't give her a chance to say her last words, landing a punch directly on her face. The Long-tongued Woman's entire face exploded. A surging energy, similar in nature to The Source, erupted from within, tearing her body apart while also rampaging through the confined corridor with devastating force.
But it seemed this New God wasn't of a high level, and the construction quality of this Apokoliptian stronghold was indeed quite good. Thus, while the energy burst ravaged the corridor and blasted open the next heavy iron door, it didn't completely destroy the facility's overall structure.
Alan shook off the severed pieces of tongue from his body, looking at Orin Vale with a strange expression.
He now seemed to be slowly starting to understand why The Green had said it was imperative to make an ally of this person.
At this moment, deep within the Fire Pit, the Four-Eyed New God witnessed this scene, his eyes nearly splitting with rage.
He clenched his fists in anger, his whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Especially when he saw the tongue being sliced into several pieces, he couldn't help but feel a pang of heartache.
He was heartbroken that his new "car" hadn't been driven for long before the automatic transmission was forcibly switched back to a manual.
This intruder was outrageously arrogant!
But as for going up there to seek revenge himself, he didn't dare.
After all, he was just a scout. In a fight, he was no match for the Long-tongued Woman from just now. The grudge for killing his "wife" had to be avenged, but he didn't necessarily have to do it himself.
Before, they had underestimated the intruders, but that wouldn't happen again.
Several New Gods from the entire Fire Pit stronghold had already gathered at his location.
"Intruders, here?" a New God asked in a deep voice. "I thought humans couldn't get in."
"That should have been the case, but this time, the opponents are clearly exceptionally skilled," the Four-Eyed New God said in a grave tone.
A New God nodded. "One of our own has already fallen at their hands. A human capable of god-slaying is certainly no ordinary person."
"That was because we were careless before, but we won't be again," the Four-Eyed New God said coldly.
"Now we are all gathered—a full eight New Gods. With this power concentrated in one place, we are unstoppable on this planet. And there are only two of them."
"True."
The New Gods all nodded in agreement.
"They don't stand a chance."
