Chapter 278: The Fifth-Dimensional Mr. Mxyzptlk
In this most important place in Kamar-Taj, right here in the Library, Tony and this interdimensional being were locked in a staring contest, their eyes blazing with mutual fury.
Wanda, in her red dress, was rather bewildered, looking on in shock and confusion at the two men who had become instantly hostile.
The handsome young man was furious. "It's you!"
Tony was even more furious. "Damn it, I've been looking for a chance to drag you out, and today you just had to deliver yourself to my door!"
Tony's arms spread slightly, and the Eye of Agamotto on his chest began to slowly turn. The metal eyeball on it seemed to come alive, rotating halfway before emitting a dangerous aura.
"Wanda, get behind me," Tony said, beckoning to her while sneering at the handsome young man. "I was wondering why your voice sounded so familiar. You're the one who interfered and tried to stop me when I was killing the Hulk. No wonder I couldn't find who it was this past year. It was an Outsider who meddled."
At times, Tony could be incredibly petty. He could ignore passersby who pointed and gossiped about him, but at other times, he couldn't let go of even the smallest slight.
Wanda didn't hesitate for a moment, immediately and obediently moving behind Tony, watching the young man warily.
"Do you know this person? He's so strange! He just suddenly appeared here and proposed to me! I don't know him at all!" Wanda cried, on the verge of losing her mind.
"I just know this bastard almost ruined my plans. He tried to save the Hulk right under my nose." Tony's expression was grim, his muscles tensed as he prepared to fight.
Openly attempting to spirit the Hulk away—that act alone ensured their relationship could never be friendly.
Moreover, this seemingly flippant young man was putting an immense amount of pressure on him. The other man just stood there, watching him with amusement, like a beast eyeing a mouse under its paw, ready to toy with it at will.
The feeling was awful.
Even the combined pressure from the Ancient One, Shazam, and Dormammu back then hadn't been this great.
"Wanda, where's Wong? Where did he go?" Tony asked, his expression dark.
"Who, you mean that fat guy? He tried to catch me, so I just tossed him somewhere else." Before Wanda could speak, the young man burst out laughing. "Look at that fat guy, so ridiculous, yelling 'Accept your Judgment, interdimensional being!' Ha!"
"You killed him?"
"No, just taught him a lesson. How could I kill someone in front of Wanda?~ Oh, and I'd advise you to put away that stone on your chest. It's completely useless against me," the young man said elegantly.
"Who are you? Barging onto Earth without my permission. As the Sorcerer Supreme, I have the authority to expel you," Tony said in a low voice.
The young man rubbed his smooth chin and casually ruffled his meticulously styled hair. He wore a plain gray jacket, thrown on carelessly, and was now sizing Tony up with a displeased expression.
"Me? My name is Mr. Mxyzptlk. Listen closely, it's Mis-ter Mxyz-ptlk!" The young man's personality was rather erratic. He stared intently at Tony. "I remember you, the bastard who got in my way, stirring up the timeline without permission. You almost got me dragged back by the Court!"
Wanda looked disdainful. "Mr. Mxyzptlk? Who has a name like that? It's ridiculous."
"Oh, my dearest Wanda, my wife, please don't say that. If you accept my proposal, I'm willing to change my name immediately," Mr. Mxyzptlk said, gazing at Wanda obsessively, a look of utter captivation on his face.
"Get lost!" Wanda shrieked again.
Mr. Mxyzptlk?
Tony's brows furrowed deeply. His expression was terrible as a storm raged in his heart.
Mr. Mxyzptlk. The name might sound ridiculous, but his power was terrifyingly immense!
This unreliable bastard had a track record that would shock anyone: he had casually turned the Multiverse into chocolate beans and eaten them; destroyed the Multiverse with a fart; erased the existence of the Multiverse with a snap of his fingers; built a toy that blew up the Multiverse, only to restore it by flicking a booger; and arbitrarily modified universal constants and parameters, making absurdities like "1+1 = a fish" a reality.
Even if the one before him was just a clone, there was absolutely no way Tony could fight him.
"Mr. Mxyzptlk, a High-Dimensional Lifeform from the Fifth Dimension, why are you here? And why are you interfering in Earth's internal affairs?" Tony's expression was grim.
"Eh? You actually know who I am? How surprising. And what do you mean, 'why am I here'? The great Mr. Mxyzptlk has scattered a bunch of his clones throughout the Multiverse. I go wherever I want and do whatever I want!" Mr. Mxyzptlk crossed his arms, looking at Tony with disdain.
"I believe you can go wherever you want, but as for doing whatever you want... Heh, the Fifth-Dimensional Court wouldn't let you off. Don't think I don't know. If you really cross the line, the Fifth-Dimensional Court will definitely drag you back, erase all your powers, and turn you into an ordinary human."
As Tony spoke, his mind raced, rapidly calculating.
He had never imagined he would have to face a powerhouse of this level while he was still relatively weak. He certainly never expected that the one who had interfered with his hunt for the Hulk was actually Mr. Mxyzptlk.
Even if this Mr. Mxyzptlk was a clone, he could still smash Tony into pulp with ease!
"Impossible! How do you know so much about me?" Mr. Mxyzptlk's expression changed. He stared at Tony, this creature he saw as a lowly multiversal being, with anger and unease.
This was his greatest secret.
The Fifth Dimension, as one of the realms within the Sphere of the Gods, was also the most low-key and mysterious world. It was inhabited by a large number of Five-Dimensional Beings, and Mr. Mxyzptlk was merely one of the most ordinary among them.
It could be said that aside from the anomaly that was Mr. Mxyzptlk, everyone else in the Fifth Dimension was very low-key. They wouldn't appear at will, let alone step into the Omni-Sphere World, because the characteristics of a Five-Dimensional Being were simply too terrifying.
The superiority of a higher dimension over a lower one was absolute.
For example, no matter how powerful a Two-Dimensional Being was, even if it was invincible in its own perceived world, it was incredibly simple for a Three-Dimensional Being to kill it: just tear up the comic book or smash the television.
So what if a Five-Dimensional Being decided to act against a Three-Dimensional Being?
It was no exaggeration to say they could casually wipe out the Multiverse. And someone like Mr. Mxyzptlk was merely one of the most insignificant members of the Fifth Dimension.
The very nature of High-Dimensional Lifeforms made them invincible in the Multiverse. It had nothing to do with talent, potential, or anything else. Simply by virtue of being a Five-Dimensional Being, they could easily eliminate the Multiverse.
For this very reason, the Fifth Dimension had the strictest restrictions on the movements of its people, especially forbidding them from entering the region of the Multiverse.
In the Sphere of the Gods, due to the transcendental nature of space-time, the various dimensions were already tightly integrated with infinite space-time. The unique nature of a Five-Dimensional Being was completely suppressed there, so they couldn't cause any significant harm. But if they entered the Omni-Sphere World, which was predominantly three-dimensional, it would be a disaster. Countless universes would be messed up beyond repair.
"So, the reason that guy Savitar was able to escape wasn't because of me, but because of you! I just took the blame for it! If I told the Speed Force Wall about this, I wonder how it would deal with you," Tony said, glaring at him.
"Bullshit! What does Savitar's escape have to do with me?! You're the one who used a half-assed Time Spell! I haven't even settled the score with you yet, and now you're trying to cause trouble for the great Mr. Mxyzptlk!"
Mr. Mxyzptlk immediately flew into a rage, like a cat whose tail had just been stepped on.
