Chapter 406

Chapter 396: The Restless Kryptonians

Author: Great Demon Spirit

An unprecedented war came to an end, leaving vast galaxies destroyed and turned to cosmic dust.

After the initial, immense shock, the entire universe gradually settled into a period of calm as time passed.

After all, intelligent life could not always spend its time and attention searching for a savior.

"Deploy a portion of our forces to continue searching the battlefield ruins for information and intelligence." —The Three Great Interstellar Empires and Xandar's Nova Corps.

"Find a way to locate the person who wields the Infinity Stones and make them one of us. That level of power is too terrifying. Even if we can't make them one of us, we must find a way to understand that person's character! Are they on the side of justice or evil!" —Oa.

"The scent of war... First priority, continue hunting Galactus or a substitute for Galactus. Our race requires a powerful energy source to conquer the universe." —The Annihilation Wave emerging from the Negative Zone.

...

After the major event, the Prime Universe fortunately survived. The various factions within were stirred into action, each beginning to make their own moves.

Most relevant to Earth, however, were the Kryptonians who had been wandering through the universe.

They had finally found information on the Codex of Life and were heading straight for Earth.

This colossal warship, the last remnant of the Kryptonian Civilization, appeared to be in terrible condition. It was extensively damaged, looking utterly dilapidated in the dark, silent vacuum of space.

It was hard to imagine what the powerful Kryptonians had encountered to end up in such a state.

"General, we have confirmed that we have shaken off Thanos."

Faora, General Zod's second-in-command, reported to the man who was quietly gazing out the window.

As one of the few surviving Kryptonians, Faora was a loyal follower of General Zod. She had a tall figure, and within her tall, shapely form, every cell contained significant potential.

Anyone who dared to underestimate this woman would suffer greatly for it.

"How much longer until we reach Earth?"

General Zod's expression was stern and cold. His face, as if chiseled by a blade, was as sharp as a sword. He wore a suit of black armor, his tall figure standing as he looked out at the dark, dead world beyond the window.

"Soon. A distance of seventy thousand light-years will be covered in a month. If our spaceship wasn't damaged, we could have reached Earth in a dozen hours at most," Faora said, her face devoid of expression.

Krypton was on the other side of the galaxy, a planet incredibly distant from Earth.

Tens of thousands of light-years might seem like a vast distance, but for an interstellar civilization like Krypton's, distance was never an issue.

If they hadn't been attacked by the damned Thanos, they would have reached Earth long ago.

Upon hearing the word "damaged," a muscle in General Zod's cheek twitched subtly, and a terrifying killing intent erupted from his eyes.

Thanos, that bastard, had actually tried to recruit them, the noble Kryptonians!

To General Zod, this was a great humiliation.

Yet, they were simply powerless to resist Thanos's lackeys and could only flee continuously.

They were too weak. Without the blessing of a yellow sun, they were incredibly feeble, their power draining away with every passing second.

Without a sound industrial system and a sufficient population, they could do nothing.

And the most important thing was the population—obtaining the Codex of Life that could rebuild their population, the Kryptonian artifact that the damned Jor-El had selfishly placed inside his son!

So-called technology and industrial systems could be built at any time, as long as they had a sufficient number of outstanding people!

"The sins of a traitor must be paid for by his descendants!"

Zod suppressed his rage, but the coldness in his eyes could not be concealed.

Faora glanced at General Zod but showed no reaction. This state of the General's was nothing new; whenever Jor-El or the Codex of Life was mentioned, the stern and domineering General Zod would have a rare loss of composure, revealing his explosive fury.

Zod had always believed that Jor-El had destroyed Krypton's last shred of hope.

"If—if Jor-El had helped me seize political power when I was purging the Council, if he had helped me stabilize the situation while I controlled the military, the two of us, working together, could have definitely saved the exploding Krypton!"

A terrifying fury and deep anguish appeared in General Zod's eyes. "Even when he refused to help me, I couldn't bring myself to kill him. I only wanted to imprison him, to let him cool down for a while, but..."

He slammed his fist against the glass, the tremendous sound deafening in the general's conference room.

Faora listened impassively, showing no reaction.

All that was left was to kill.

Jor-El was already dead, so his son, Kal, would pay the price.

Kal's corpse, and the Codex of Life hidden within his body, would serve as the foundation for Krypton's rebirth.

The two individuals with superior genetics, Zod and Jor-El, who were once the closest of friends, were destined to have a final showdown. Last time, Jor-El was killed by Zod, and Zod himself was exiled, which was a stroke of luck that saved him from the exploding planet Krypton, sparing him from perishing with those foolish high-ranking members of the Council.

This time, the war would be passed down to Jor-El's descendant.

"General, I must remind you that one of the universe's greatest mystical sanctums—Kamar-Taj—is located on that planet."

"I know! Our armor is more than enough to render us immune to magic." Zod's face was grim, and the bulging veins on his forehead gradually receded.

Kryptonians feared mages. This was an awkward but very real problem.

If you were to say that an Earthling's physical resistance was 100 and magic resistance was 100, then a Kryptonian suppressed by a red sun would have a physical resistance hovering around a few hundred.

But a Kryptonian who had basked under a yellow sun, like Superman, would have a physical resistance starting at 10,000.

And their magic resistance would increase to... 200?

Was that useful? Against enemies of the same level with a magic attack of 10,000, that 200 magic resistance was completely useless. It would only result in an instant kill.

Compared to an ordinary human, a Kryptonian's powerful cellular energy and physique meant that magic with an attack power of 201 couldn't harm them much.

But what if an enemy with a magic attack of 1,000 or even 10,000 appeared?

The Kryptonians would be brought to their knees!

No matter how much cellular energy they had, how strong their physique was, or how terrifying their physical resistance, it would be utterly useless.

Weaknesses were always spoken of in relation to opponents of the same level.

To deal with an enemy like General Zod, would one send out a rookie mage who hadn't even mastered magic? No, at the very least, it should be someone on the level of Wong or Mordo. That would be reasonable.

But to the Kryptonians, this was precisely the issue, because their magic resistance was far weaker than their physical resistance.

However, there were two ways to overcome this racial weakness.

One was to possess the Codex of Life, to have countless top-tier genes converge in one body, granting infinite potential.

The other was Doomsday—the Doomsday with infinite potential, infinite learning, infinite regeneration, infinite resurrection, the undying and indestructible.

"Find a way to increase our speed. I can't wait any longer. Our magic-resistant armor can fully protect us. If Kamar-Taj truly insists on interfering, then we will kill them all as well!" General Zod said coldly.

"But Earth... has a yellow sun!"
