Chapter 481: Darkseid's Wrath
As the white light faded, everything ended in silence.
"Is that it?"
Countless people watched in confusion. Although they didn't understand what had happened, they breathed a sigh of relief.
The groups observing secretly from a distance gradually dispersed. It was foreseeable that the news—that Doomsday, just like Trigon before him, had fallen at Tony's hands—would soon spread.
Those three boxes would also be noted by interested parties, who would go back to investigate them. The secret of the Mother Boxes could no longer be kept.
On Earth, the major factions wiped the cold sweat from their brows, their hearts still pounding with lingering fear.
Even from millions of miles away, they could feel the terrifying pressure of the ancient Doomsday, making their souls tremble and their mortal bodies feel on the verge of collapse.
In Gotham City, Batman, wearing his newly forged Thresher armor, silently returned to the Batcave after confirming Earth was safe.
The Thresher armor was a suit he had built to handle world-class wars and was capable of combat in space. It seemed it wouldn't be needed this time.
"So that thing was Doomsday, the creature Tony has been chasing..."
Batman was deeply worried. He had obtained Lex Luthor's modified brain, which had been mechanically calculating a manufacturing plan. Batman just silently committed the name "Doomsday" to memory.
In New York, Iron Man also shed his flippant demeanor and ordered Jarvis to remove the giant armor from his body.
"Terrifying. Tony has been fighting enemies like this all along." Tony looked out at the vibrant nightlife, where many people had no idea what had just happened.
Earth had once again brushed past the Grim Reaper.
This wasn't the first time Tony had saved Earth. Dormammu, Mephisto, Azazel, Atlantis, Trigon, Doomsday—any troublemakers who dared to act up had suffered great losses at Tony's hands, either dying or fleeing.
Unfortunately, there were always some restless individuals who wanted to stir things up, feeling that Tony was too domineering and unapproachable, constantly making small moves against him. Upon hearing the news that Tony was leaving Earth, they became incredibly excited.
"Earthlings will have to rely on themselves from now on. There won't be such a reliable guardian anymore..."
Tony murmured, a hint of an emotion—perhaps self-mockery, perhaps something else—on his face.
Earth was safe once again. Everyone cheered, yet none of them knew the significance of what had just transpired.
...
Apokolips, also known as the Hell Star, had a volume comparable to the sum of ten thousand universes.
Under the rule of the father and son, Yuga Khan and Darkseid, Apokolips continued its brutal reign.
On this super-planet, where hellfire constantly roiled and boiled, the brutal and terrifying rule and harsh decrees made life unbearable for the residents of Apokolips.
Because anyone who dared to voice their dissatisfaction was already dead.
Ever since Yuga Khan went to the edge of the Sphere of the Gods to try and uncover the secrets of the Source Wall, only to accidentally get stuck to it, Apokolips has been ruled by his son, Darkseid.
The dark tyrant Darkseid, even in the Sphere of the Gods, a place teeming with powerhouses, had a fearsome reputation that intimidated countless enemies.
Every day, Darkseid sat high on his throne, looking down upon the Hell Star beneath his feet, watching life after life scream in agony.
All across the planet, vast numbers of the bio-weapon "Parademons" were being created, then transported to the multiverse to wage wars of extinction.
The entirety of Apokolips was a super war fortress, insanely churning out troops.
Every minute of every second, an unknown number of universes were discovered by Apokolips. Then, a dimensional portal would be constructed to transport the Parademon army for a bloody slaughter.
Parademons, these semi-mechanical, semi-biological artificial creatures, were born only for war. They struck terror into countless universes and were renowned in DC Comics alongside the Kryptonians' Doomsday as the two most powerful bio-weapons in existence.
Doomsday is an individual; the Parademons are a legion.
"A new portal has appeared!"
"Same old rules. Send ten thousand Parademons to scout first. If it's not enough, send more."
Every moment, the colossal Apokolips would dispatch billions of Parademons into the multiverse to wage war, a testament to its formidable might.
As always, while Darkseid was looking down on his kingdom with a cold expression, another portal was discovered. To be precise, it was a portal that appeared on its own—incredibly sudden and incredibly stable.
A white light suddenly appeared and vanished in a flash. Immediately after, a dark, grimy thing covered in bone spurs crashed down in front of Darkseid.
The distance was very close; barely a hundred meters separated Darkseid and that strange thing.
This sudden scene left everyone a bit stunned.
"That white light was... a Mother Box? Which idiot activated a Mother Box?"
"Probably some idiot from some universe who didn't even know that a Mother Box can connect directly to Apokolips."
The warriors of Apokolips watched from afar, not daring to approach, because the tyrant they served was known to kill at will.
Darkseid sat steadily on his throne. From beginning to end, his expression didn't change in the slightest, as if what had appeared before him was merely an insignificant little bug, not worthy of his attention.
Doomsday shook its head, let out an unwilling roar, and stood up.
It raised its head and met Darkseid's red eyes. Whether it was stunned or something else, it didn't back down in the slightest.
Smack...
Doomsday felt the essence of the One-Above-All dissipating within its body, growing ever more resentful. It smacked its lips, seemingly savoring the last remnants of the dissipating power of the One-Above-All, relishing the aftertaste.
To an outsider, the tyrant and the monster were just staring at each other, their gazes cold. Time seemed to stand still, and the scene became awkward for a moment.
Another astonishing burst of flame erupted, causing the ground to tremble, like a signal shattering the silence.
Darkseid's gaze finally shifted subtly. A hint of interest appeared in his eyes as he slowly said, "What are you?"
The tyrant who struck fear into countless hearts stood up. His gray, rock-like skin, changed by absorbing the Omega Effect, was covered in cracks, as if pieced together from countless weathered stones.
A single one of his arms was incredibly thick; you would have to tie three ordinary Earthlings together to match its circumference.
Although his appearance was not pleasant, the undisguised tyranny and malice, along with the terrifying might that faintly suppressed all of Apokolips, was enough to inspire immense fear.
Unfortunately, this might, this majesty, this condescending gaze—none of it was worth a damn to Doomsday.
Who had the ancient Doomsday ever feared? It wasn't even afraid of death, so why would it fear some ugly lump?
Doomsday moved. It snapped out of its resentment, its cold gaze regained focus, and it stared impassively at Darkseid as if looking at a dead man.
Without waiting for Darkseid to react, Doomsday, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, struck first.
"ROAR!"
With a furious roar, Doomsday threw a punch. The entirety of Apokolips seemed to tremble, and the ground collapsed.
And then...
The majestic Darkseid was sent flying!
