Chapter 482: Defeat
Author: Great Demon Spirit
Doomsday struck first, lunging forward and sending Darkseid flying with a single punch.
In the Sphere of the Gods, where space-time was frozen, conditions were incredibly hostile to beings of the multiverse, but to Doomsday, it was nothing.
He sensed the sluggishness of space-time. Amidst his cold indifference, his massive five-meter-tall body immediately began to change. A violent transformation erupted from the depths of his genes. He adapted, modifying his own genetic structure, down to every single cell and fiber within his body, aligning them all with the space-time he now occupied.
The menacing bone spurs covering his body retracted slightly, pressing more tightly against his skin. His slightly open mouth revealed hundreds of long, pointed teeth that grew even sharper.
The energy he wielded was rapidly updated. In an instant, Doomsday latched onto the space-time of the Sphere of the Gods, then studied and mimicked it. Immediately, millions of evolutionary paths appeared simultaneously within his body. Based on the subtle changes from his interaction with the external environment, he quickly selected one.
Doomsday had already evolved a physique adapted to the Sphere of the Gods.
He contemplated the tiny sliver of the Singular God's essence he had extracted from Tony. This minuscule amount was, of course, far from enough, but it was sufficient to give him a direction for his next evolution.
He had sent Darkseid flying with a punch, clearing a patch of empty ground. Then, grasping that final bit of noble essence, he attempted to evolve, but did not succeed.
He was still a long way off, capable only of taking a small step on the Singular God's path.
Again and again, he tried to condense the subtleties of a singularity, but he failed each time, consuming a massive amount of energy and life force, which only further annoyed Doomsday.
Finally, he retracted his focus slightly and looked toward the creature he had sent flying.
Was it an illusion? He seemed to detect the very thing he desired from this fellow as well. However, it was far less easy to analyze than what he had extracted from Tony.
It was like the difference between a juvenile and a perfect form. The juvenile's power leaked out, impossible to conceal, while the perfect form had already made retracting its power an instinct, becoming flawless.
A red beam of energy suddenly erupted from the ruins. Doomsday dodged it with ease, but the beam seemed alive. It rigidly yet nimbly made several sharp, arcless turns, slamming straight into him.
The Omega Beams, born from the Omega Effect, possessed the characteristic of "once fired, always hits the target." As long as they were emitted from Darkseid's eyes, they would constantly change direction, twisting as they burst forth. Most of their angles were around sixty degrees, leaving deep trails in the air.
The violent destructive power immediately permeated him. The instant Doomsday was sent flying, it began to rapidly destroy his body.
"You're courting death!!!"
Darkseid leaped out from the ruins. His imposing figure was still somewhat smaller than Doomsday's, but his powerful aura was undeniably real.
His eyes were grim, and he wielded his Omega Beams with incredible skill. A tremendous sense of humiliation swelled within him, causing a fierce killing intent to rise from the tyrant.
He was the Dark Lord Darkseid, God of Apokolips, whose might had shaken the Sphere of the Gods for countless years. When had he ever been sent flying by some random creature with a single punch?!
That he had deigned to ask the identity of this thing before him was a great act of mercy, yet he was met with humiliation.
His killing intent surged. Darkseid reached out with a giant hand. As he took a step, that massive hand was already pressing down on Doomsday's head. With a low roar, Darkseid grabbed him fiercely, unleashing power sufficient to destroy a universe. He lifted Doomsday and slammed him into the ground.
The incredibly solid Apokolips immediately trembled. Under this single blow, a vast expanse of the ground began to collapse. An area comparable in size to a universe was easily destroyed by Darkseid.
Countless warriors of Apokolips wailed as they were killed by the aftershocks. Their deaths were worthless; the tyrant didn't even spare them a glance.
Weak trash wasn't worthy of a second glance.
"If you survive this, I will give you the chance to submit to me."
Darkseid looked down at the ruins beneath his feet. He stood atop them, his gaze piercing through countless layers of rock to see Doomsday deep underground.
Even he was slightly moved, for he saw Doomsday actually get back up, pushing against the immense pressure and charging back to the surface.
Doomsday's head had suffered extensive damage, but soon, an even greater power burst forth from the depths of his genes, repairing his injuries and making him stronger.
Doomsday was learning, thinking. In response to Darkseid's fighting style and the force of his attacks, he evolved tougher skin and muscles.
Doomsday let out a low roar, attempting to analyze the essence of the Omega Beams. This was, of course, an impossible task, but he immediately selected the optimal evolutionary path to resist them.
Layers of bone spurs, like a raging ocean, densely spread from his head to eventually cover his entire body. The closed energy circulation system within him began to operate frantically. Each cycle brought forth even more powerful energy. This complex energy was distributed throughout his body, strengthening his muscles, growing his bone spurs, or simply manifesting as raw power.
The law of conservation of energy was complete bullshit in the face of Doomsday. He didn't need to absorb external power; he could grow continuously stronger just by relying on his own internal circulation.
Darkseid couldn't help but reveal a shocked expression. Under his watch, the creature before him was becoming more powerful, its aura more astonishing.
He had grown stronger in just a few dozen seconds.
Doomsday lunged forward like a madman. He never feared battle, no matter who the enemy was.
"Who in the world are you!!!" Darkseid roared.
But his opponent didn't answer, or perhaps, disdained to answer. The massive body charged forward like an indestructible bulwark, engaging Darkseid in a frenzied battle.
Heat vision erupted from his eyes. A seemingly endless supply of energy, heat of an indescribable trillion degrees, blasted Darkseid, actually making him feel a burning sensation.
Punch after punch, every slight movement of his body could cause the entirety of Apokolips to tremble. The tangible, terrifying web of orange energy was merely leakage from Doomsday's frenetic battle.
Two monsters who were complete strangers fought madly. With every move, they caused widespread destruction and death. Apokolips seemed utterly humble and insignificant before them.
Blood splattered and chunks of flesh flew. The battle between the two gradually moved beyond Apokolips, spanning across the Sphere of the Gods. The fighting was incredibly brutal, startling countless hibernating Singular Gods.
To the shock of all the deities, Darkseid was actually at a disadvantage.
Gradually, Doomsday's attack speed grew faster and faster, his energy levels skyrocketing. The damage caused by Darkseid's Omega Beams actually became less and less severe with each hit.
Darkseid's roars of fury gradually weakened. His once indomitable, formidable power also began to dwindle before the frenzied Doomsday.
In the end, Darkseid was suppressed. Covered in wounds, large chunks of his rock-like flesh had crumbled away, completely depleted. His armor, a symbol of honor and authority, was utterly destroyed.
Another punch. Doomsday smashed his fist into Darkseid's chest, directly causing the collapse of a vast area of the surrounding frozen space-time.
Darkseid's chest caved in abruptly. He was like a falling meteor, his battered body wreathed in flames as he streaked across the sky in a long red arc, plummeting toward the devastated Apokolips.
Darkseid was defeated.
