Chapter 559: The Green Lantern Corps
"Time Wraiths are strange creatures that live in the Time-Space Tunnel. Some say these lost souls are tragic beings, formed when a group of Speedsters recklessly traveled through time, causing numerous peaceful universes to suddenly shrink and collapse."
"These lifeforms, which harbor an immense disgust and killing intent for Speedsters, are suspected to be the collected remains of all the innocent lives from those destroyed universes."
"Another theory is that these Time Wraiths are simply Speedsters who have suffered temporal backlash."
Tony raised his head, looking at the Time Wraith that flew toward him, silent yet astonishingly fast.
The Time Wraith's movement speed gradually increased, reaching a level of one hundred times the speed of sound, but surprisingly, it didn't cause any sonic boom. As it moved, it radiated a chilling cold, and the temperature plummeted wherever it passed.
Barry felt the incredibly pure and maddening killing intent wash over him, and his face changed drastically. The creature's empty eye sockets stared straight at him as it stretched out an arm, as if to pull him back into the silence of death.
"What should I do!?" Barry's expression was incredibly grim. The Speed Force within his body surged, and yellow arcs of electricity appeared out of thin air, spreading across the surface of his body.
"Here's a hint for you: all Speedsters touched by this thing have died. Even with the powerful healing factor granted to you by the Speed Force, you absolutely cannot contend with a Time Wraith."
Tony stroked his chin, suddenly wanting to capture this Time Wraith and study it.
The Time Wraith opened its mouth, seemingly screaming, and abruptly accelerated, pouncing madly at Barry. It loathed Speedsters, loathed all beings that relied on the Speed Force to wantonly alter the timeline.
Yellow electric arcs flashed as Barry quickly began to run, with the Time Wraith in relentless pursuit.
Tony watched the nearly ubiquitous yellow arcs of electricity envelop the entire Donnie's Estate. From a distance, the flashing lightning was extremely intimidating.
The figures of Barry and the Time Wraith were fleeting and indistinct, their chase filling every corner of space with their shadows.
"The Time Wraith is a relatively 'gentle' creature. At least this thing can't outrun Barry. Even if it caught him, it would need a few seconds to drain all of Barry's life force and Speed Force, which gives Barry time to counter and escape... If it were the Black Flash, with Barry's current speed, he'd be dead for sure."
Tony stood on the lawn, calmly watching the brilliant spectacle. Honestly, it was quite a sight. He stopped Wanda and the others from approaching, his eyes fixed on the Time Wraith.
This creature was very particular about its grudges, single-mindedly focused on killing Speedsters. Despite its incredibly fast movement, if you were to quickly throw a person at it right now, the Time Wraith would rather swerve around them than crash into them.
It only targets Speedsters, but it is very, very tolerant of innocents.
Barry pushed his speed to the limit, leaving the Time Wraith far behind, and calmly analyzed it.
"I've already dispatched powerful reinforcements from the future to help you fight Steppenwolf. If you can't even hold back Steppenwolf, there's no way you can beat stronger opponents. I can't protect Earth forever," Tony shouted to Barry.
Barry glanced at him, then nodded. Pushing his speed to its absolute peak, he began running in frantic circles. At the very center of the circles, a blue vortex appeared, and Barry dove headfirst into it.
The Time Wraith let out a silent scream, seemingly in anger, and followed him into the Time-Space Tunnel.
All the yellow electric arcs vanished. The cold aura also gradually faded, the temperature rose again, and the warmth of the sun spread once more.
"Good, the Time Wraith followed Barry back to the normal point in time. I need to find a way to capture it... If I can control this thing, it's like controlling the natural enemy of all Speedsters. It would save me the trouble of dealing with some unreasonable bastards messing with time."
Tony watched the tunnel close. As a thought crossed his mind, the will possessing this point in time began to blur. He sternly instructed Wanda and the others that everything would be explained in half a year and that they must not, under any circumstances, reveal a single detail of what happened here to any outsiders.
Then, Tony's will dissipated, following in Barry's footsteps, and in a daze, returned to his original body on the planet Cybertron.
A sharp pain washed over him. The inversion of space-time and the distorted senses caused Tony immense discomfort.
"I'm never doing this kind of thing again. It's too unpleasant."
Tony rubbed his forehead, his brows deeply furrowed. Traveling through the timeline was too difficult for him at his current level, and the price was too great. It had actually caused his will to weaken significantly. Although it was temporary, it still frightened Tony.
"What's wrong?" Wanda asked, looking at him in surprise.
"Hmm, something very interesting happened... Do you remember half a year ago, when that guy, The Flash, found me, and then got into a fight with a strange creature..."
Wanda thought for a moment, then it dawned on her. "I remember now. That guy was so annoying. He showed up suddenly, started a fight with someone suddenly, and then suddenly left."
Wanda recalled this suddenly appearing memory without any particular surprise, as if the experience was supposed to have existed all along.
Tony smiled, said no more, and pulled her closer, then carefully explained the truth about Barry's journey through the timeline.
...
Meanwhile, somewhere in the universe.
A thousand beams of green light flew at astonishing speed, crossing one galaxy after another as they rushed towards Earth.
The Green Lantern Corps had dispatched one thousand of its officers to rush to Earth and join the battle.
A force of one thousand was already astounding; the entire universe had only 7,200 Green Lantern officers. This time, they had dispatched one-seventh of their total force.
Well, at least on the surface, there were only 7,200 Green Lanterns. Secretly, the Guardians had many trump cards hidden away, and they had stockpiled a large number of Lantern Rings, ready to arm more armies at a moment's notice.
After all, the essence of a Green Lantern's power is their willpower, but the key medium that makes them powerful is the small Lantern Ring. Individuals with decent willpower can be found all over the universe, but without a Lantern Ring, no amount of willpower matters.
A Green Lantern is great because of their ring. Without it, they are just a great mortal. This is completely different from those with superpowers.
These thousand beams of light flew at high speed, following the tall figure at the head of the formation, who served as its arrowhead.
"Optimus Prime, has your homeworld sent reinforcements?" Tomar-Re asked, following behind Optimus Prime.
"Of course. I have already notified Cybertron. We will have powerful reinforcements joining the battle," Optimus Prime said.
"That's good... To be honest, the thought of fighting Apokolips gives me a headache," Tomar-Re said.
"Although Steppenwolf is powerful, he does not represent all of Apokolips. We will win." Optimus Prime's eyes gazed at the star-dusted expanse ahead. Earth was already clearly in sight.
The flames of war were raging on the azure planet.
The Green Lantern Corps has arrived!
