Chapter 570: The Flame of Greed
Author: Great Demon Spirit
"Guys, help me, I'm about to die from exhaustion!!"
The Flash ran, completely exhausted, his speed showing a slow, steady decline.
That's right, he was indeed much faster than the Time Wraith, but the Time Wraith didn't get tired. He did.
Every time he looked back, the Time Wraith's hollow eye sockets were staring straight at him, sending a chill down his spine.
He really didn't want to be tangled up with this bizarre creature anymore.
"Cold, Barry, extreme cold can restrain it!" said Harrison.
"Caitlin?"
"I can't, Barry. I can't turn into Killer Frost. I can't control that personality..." Caitlin, in front of her computer, shook her head helplessly.
"You can do it, Caitlin, it's not..."
"She can't. She's too soft right now to control the powerful negative personality."
Tony's voice suddenly cut in. This time, he wasn't sitting in a chair; instead, he used a portal to return directly to Earth. The golden sparks slowly subsided.
He brought with him the Omega-level mutant, Iceman Bobby.
"Oh, God, help me! Help me get rid of this thing!"
The moment The Flash saw Tony's figure, he almost burst into tears.
This Time Wraith thing was too dangerous; it directly stripped away the life force and time of anyone it touched.
"Bobby, use your power. Freeze that thing," Tony said lightly.
The Flash's figure approached from a distance, becoming a red blur trailed by yellow lightning, a spectacular sight. A moment later, from the direction he had come, an ugly, upper-body-only skeleton silently gave chase.
Iceman Bobby nodded, spread his hands, and quickly blasted a stream of cold air behind The Flash. After several failed attempts, Bobby finally succeeded in freezing the Time Wraith, slowing it down.
The reason Iceman could be called an Omega-level mutant was his ability to create ice limitlessly. It completely defied logic, broke the laws of physics, and conjured cold air from nothing.
This was a formidable ability. At a certain level of power, Iceman could turn a blazing sun into a giant block of ice in an instant. All moving atoms would be forcibly slowed, yet Bobby himself would suffer no drain. It was simply terrifying.
Dealing with a Time Wraith that couldn't retaliate, feel anger, or hold a grudge was almost too easy.
If he failed once, he just had to try a few more times. After all, the Time Wraith only had eyes for Barry; it couldn't be bothered to pay attention to anyone else.
The Time Wraith was assaulted by the powerful cold air. Its strange physical structure began to freeze, its speed dropped sharply, and it eventually became a frozen block of ice.
"Can this thing really not die?" Bobby asked, lowering his hands.
"Who knows? Maybe you froze it to death. It doesn't really matter," Tony said with a smile.
The Flash plopped onto the ground, gasping for breath and letting out sounds of both anguish and relief.
He was truly exhausted.
"Still want to travel through the timeline next time?" Tony asked, looking at him with a grin.
The Flash hesitated for a moment, then shook his head. "No."
"Your hesitation tells me you'll still try, even if it means paying a terrible price. Besides, you know how to deal with the Time Wraith now."
Tony squatted down, patted his shoulder, and looked at him seriously. "You want to resurrect your mother. That's a very dangerous idea. All who foolishly try to change history will only become a part of it."
"You seem to know everything..." The Flash looked at him with surprise and suspicion.
"I have an omniscient chair. I sit in it and study when I have nothing better to do," Tony said nonchalantly.
The Flash didn't seem to fully understand. After sitting on the ground for a while, the powerful regenerative ability granted by the Speed Force kicked in, and his exhaustion quickly vanished.
"I just want to know the truth," The Flash said in a low voice.
"When you go back to that point in time, your emotions will drive you to prevent your mother's death, even if it means completely changing the course of history. You won't succeed, Barry. You'll regret it."
Tony patted Barry's shoulder, reached out to pick up the block of ice, and left with a bewildered-looking Bobby.
The Flash stood there silently. In his earpiece, Harrison's nervous voice came through.
"Barry, Barry? I suddenly lost your signal! What happened?"
"Tony came. He helped me deal with the Time Wraith..." The Flash said after a moment of silence.
He didn't reveal their conversation about time travel.
Besides, why did Tony cut his comms signal...? Swallowing his doubts, Barry kept his mouth shut.
...
Apokolips.
In a gloomy, cold cave, Steppenwolf was completely shrouded in darkness, his expression fluctuating indeterminately.
Steppenwolf had just received the memories of a dead clone. Everything that had happened in the Prime Universe was received by his main body on Apokolips.
Steppenwolf's expression was strange, as if he were hesitating and conflicted.
The Anti-Life Equation... could it really exist?
Darkseid had searched for countless years and found nothing. Many believed the thing didn't exist.
"The Anti-Matter Universe, Mobius..." Countless conflicting thoughts swirled in Steppenwolf's mind.
The sensitive information Tony had conveyed directly stoked Steppenwolf's ambition.
As for one clone dying in battle, that was a trivial matter. Steppenwolf didn't care about it at all.
Across the entire multiverse, Steppenwolf had countless clones, and he could create more to throw into the multiverse at any time. If he went crazy over a single, insignificant clone, he never would have reached his current level.
Moreover, throughout his long years of conquest, the number of his clones defeated by the natives of the multiverse was simply uncountable. There were so many that Steppenwolf's main body barely paid them any mind.
A fierce conflict was raging in his mind.
Should he tell his nephew or not? Or should he just go himself? As long as he could obtain the Anti-Life Equation, he would become the strongest on Apokolips!
Ambition swelled wildly, and a scorching heat flashed in Steppenwolf's eyes.
The law of survival on Apokolips was actually very simple: the strong are revered. After Yuga Khan played himself onto the Source Wall, never to return, Darkseid became the strongest. That was why Steppenwolf was unwaveringly loyal to Darkseid.
Steppenwolf was someone who embodied this philosophy to his very core. He followed whoever was the most powerful. But now, there was a chance for him to become the strongest himself...
That was the Anti-Life Equation, the ultimate formula of destruction, the antithesis of all life.
After a long, long time, as if billions of years had passed, Steppenwolf let out a long breath. He rose, gripped his battle-axe tightly, and walked out of the cave with a blank expression.
"It seems I'll have to take a trip to the Anti-Matter Universe."
A deep greed and longing flashed in Steppenwolf's eyes.
