Chapter 589

Chapter 576: Sinestro's Rage

The ubiquitous insignia of the Green Lantern Corps lent an unparalleled air of solemn authority to the area.

Those stacked, rectangular box-like structures were the prisons of the Green Lantern Corps. Each prison was less than ten square meters, offering extremely limited room for movement, and was semi-transparent, constructed from the power of the Green Will.

There were thousands upon thousands of such prisons, arranged in rows to form towering prison blocks ten thousand meters high.

Green Lanterns were everywhere, patrolling vigilantly, on guard against any possible minor breach.

Optimus Prime slipped into this place and precisely located Sinestro.

Sinestro's back was to him, facing the opposite wall. His upper body was bare, and the insignia of the Green Lantern Corps had been branded onto his back—a mark of shame.

Originally, he was imprisoned for the crime of recklessly pursuing Parallax, which led to the deaths of twelve Lanterns. However, in the subsequent investigation by other Lanterns, what Sinestro had done to his homeworld, Korugar, was exposed.

The entire planet of Korugar had become a hell. All of its people were shackled—with real chains wrapped around their necks and binding their hands. Every resident of Korugar was like a prisoner, forced to act in strict accordance with the rules Sinestro had established. To disobey was to be guilty.

And guilt meant death.

This scene enraged the investigating Green Lanterns. They then liberated the people of Korugar and reported the matter to the Guardians.

The Guardians were both shocked and furious, as they had been completely unaware of this. Driven partly by the panic and shame of having been deceived by Sinestro, they directly burned the insignia of the Green Lantern Corps onto Sinestro's back with fire.

For a proud man like Sinestro, this was a tremendous humiliation, and one that could never be washed away.

Optimus Prime had sent everyone away and was now watching him in silence.

"I've been wondering if you would come, and when," Sinestro said as if he had long been waiting for this moment. He kept his scarred back to Optimus Prime, speaking without turning his head.

His voice was preternaturally calm.

But Optimus Prime's azure electronic eyes narrowed. Behind this eerie calm hid a heart-stopping hatred.

Who wouldn't feel hatred after suffering such a great humiliation?

"I know you, Optimus Prime. Your personality is too easy to see through, and too easy to exploit. Let me guess, Tony must have warned you, right?" Sinestro said.

"I'm going to let you go, and then we'll be even," Optimus Prime said, not responding to his question. He didn't know when it started, but he suddenly realized the distance between himself and Sinestro was growing ever wider.

The scene of Sinestro's first visit to Mars to meet him was still vivid in his mind.

The words he had spoken time and again, teaching him how to become a proper Lantern, still seemed to echo in his ears.

Optimus Prime looked at Sinestro's back and said calmly, "Leave. Don't come back, and don't return to Korugar. Your extreme and brutal rule is more terrifying than the Nazis."

Sinestro, of course, knew the meaning of "Nazi". Every Green Lantern Ring instills a vast amount of knowledge into its wielder.

It's precise enough to include introductions to millions of species on every single planet, let alone a mere piece of history.

"Extreme? Brutal? Is that what you really think?!"

Sinestro suddenly erupted in fury. He shot to his feet, roaring as he lunged towards Optimus Prime, only to be stopped by the invisible barrier of his prison.

His eyes were wide and bloodshot, his red face contorted as if soaked in blood.

"In the decades I ruled Korugar, there wasn't a single crime! Not one revenge killing! Not one accident! Every resident's safety was guaranteed, and every child could play without fear of a madman suddenly appearing with a knife to butcher them!!"

"If they had merely liberated the people of Korugar, I would have said nothing."

"But!! My beloved wife! Abin Sur, she died in the mob's revolution!!!"

"She's dead! She was innocent!!!"

Sinestro roared madly, smashing his fists against the barrier again and again. Blood soon burst from his knuckles.

"You people always judge others from your moral high ground! Those guys only saw my cruel rule over Korugar but turned a blind eye to the brutal wars of its past! They wanted to be self-righteous saviors, calling on the enslaved people of Korugar to overthrow my rule..."

"My loyal subordinates were systematically slaughtered, and my beloved wife died in an accident while being pursued by the mob!!"

"And still, those damned Green Lanterns ignored it all!"

"Optimus Prime, I've been waiting for you. Not for you to break me out—if I wanted to, this damned prison couldn't hold me!"

Sinestro's eyes were red as he panted heavily, pressing himself against the barrier in front of Optimus Prime. Then, he suddenly regained his composure.

An eerie calm.

"If you're trying to influence my thoughts, it's impossible," Optimus Prime said in a deep voice.

"I don't need to influence you, because you know many things the Guardians don't want you to know. That's enough. One day, when you discover that everything you believe in has been destroyed by those you trust, you will understand how I feel."

Sinestro slowly stood up straight, his hands falling to his sides, ignoring the blood that dripped from them.

He let out a sinister laugh. "I don't know what Tony is plotting, and I have no interest in finding out. But the moment you appeared here, I knew the Guardians would compromise once again. It's also the perfect opportunity to purge you from the Corps."

"They don't dare to go to war with your homeworld. They are afraid."

Optimus Prime fell silent for a moment and didn't respond immediately.

Plotting to acquire the various Lantern Rings was Cybertron's established plan, and it would never stop.

Optimus Prime shattered the prison with a single punch, then tossed a Green Lantern Ring to Sinestro. He said in a low voice, "Go. I've sent the Lanterns here away. Leave before the Guardians have time to react."

Sinestro sneered, took the ring, and immediately put it on.

"Let me offer you a piece of advice: never place your hope in external forces, be they people or things. Only you yourself are truly reliable," Sinestro said.

"Then you're bound to be disappointed. I will always have people and things I can trust," Optimus Prime replied, unmoved.

Sinestro scoffed, then shot up into the sky. He cast one last glance at Oa, his eyes filled with seething hatred, and quickly vanished over the horizon.

He would seek a greater power, a power that he could completely control.

The mighty Parallax, whose power of Fear was a natural counter to the Green Lantern Corps, naturally became Sinestro's target.

The alarms blared. The Lanterns arrived late, staring at the scene, dumbfounded.
