Chapter 583: Emotional Spectrum, Central Power Battery
In the laboratory, Parallax's screams were shrill and terrifying.
Wave after wave of intense fear spread out wildly, causing some people to feel uneasy.
However, it was only a minor influence and did nothing to change its fate.
Parallax's tenacity didn't improve its situation; on the contrary, it greatly stimulated the enthusiasm of scientific madmen like Shockwave, who continuously intensified its dissection and research.
Fragments of Parallax's body were sliced off bit by bit, transforming into free-floating fear energy that the Academy of Sciences' scientists extracted to study the wonders of the Emotional Spectrum.
"Looks like the progress is good."
Tony walked in, a smile on his face.
"The progress is indeed good. Give me a little time, and I'll be able to create a Yellow Power Battery," said Sai Tianjiao, one of The Thirteen Primes, with a calm voice.
A Power Battery is an aggregate of a single energy from the Emotional Spectrum and the central power source for all rings of that color. Lantern Ring wielders must periodically recharge from their corresponding Central Power Battery; otherwise, the rings will cease to function due to a lack of energy.
The ring is like a cell phone, and the Power Battery is like a super power bank.
The Emotional Spectrum itself is what supplies energy to the Power Battery, just as humans generate electricity from sunlight. A thorough understanding of the Emotional Spectrum is required to empower the Power Battery, which in turn provides energy to the Lantern Rings.
"A truly miraculous creature. It is, in itself, countless forms of unconscious fear. Unlike Parademons, which devour fear, Parallax *is* fear," Alpha Trion mused, stroking his metallic beard. His eyes narrowed as he stared thoughtfully at the imprisoned Parallax.
Sai Tianjiao and Alpha Trion, the two demigods stationed at the Academy of Sciences to guard against any trouble from Parallax, ultimately couldn't resist their curiosity and personally participated in the research.
These two were already knowledgeable Primes, and their involvement greatly accelerated the pace of scientific research.
"We have completed our preliminary study of the Emotional Spectrum's outline," said Sai Tianjiao, who appeared in a female form.
"So what exactly is the Emotional Spectrum?" Tony raised his eyebrows.
"It's a tangible energy that can break through dimensional barriers, connected to the emotions of all life in the Multiverse. The relationship between the Emotional Spectrum and a Lantern can be understood as the relationship between the Speed Force Wall and Speedsters," Alpha Trion explained.
Every Speedster who masters the Speed Force also charges the Speed Force Wall with every run.
Similarly, a Lantern who wears a ring gains high-level permission to manifest a single emotion from the Emotional Spectrum, and in turn, reinforces their own emotions, allowing their spirit and willpower to briefly become part of the Emotional Spectrum.
"It's a very peculiar energy. The Emotional Spectrum is omnipresent, one of the most common energies in the universe. Anyone who wears a ring has permission to communicate with it. Anyone who removes the ring will lose permission to access it. The function of the Central Power Battery is to act as a base station for the vast and scattered Emotional Spectrum. Rings of the corresponding color will be permitted to obtain the qualification to use the Emotional Spectrum from this base station," Wheeljack explained, putting down the equipment in his hands.
"I understand. It's a very generous energy. Anyone can use it as long as they figure out how," Tony nodded.
"This is an immense body of knowledge. Fortunately, we have Parallax. We can directly extract fragments of its body and modify them into a crude Yellow Power Battery," Wheeljack said, rubbing his hands together in excitement.
Who knows how many years it would take to master the knowledge of the Emotional Spectrum from scratch, unless they were to raid Oa directly and plunder the fruits of the Guardians' labor.
A much more convenient method was to just carve the flesh off an emotional entity.
Parallax roared. Its body, now a full size smaller, surged with rage as it listened to the group outside discussing how to dissect it.
Its ferocious eyes stared daggers at Tony. If it weren't for Tony, it would still be free, still roaming the endless cosmos at will.
"If you look at me like that again, I'll dig your eyes out. Every time you regenerate them, I'll dig them out again," Tony said earnestly.
Parallax immediately lowered its head and averted its gaze, though the resentment in its eyes could not be concealed.
"If you can cooperate obediently, I will give you a chance at freedom," Tony said calmly.
His purpose in capturing Parallax was to get his hands on the Yellow Lantern Ring; the power of fear would become a sharp blade in Tony's grasp. Once that goal was achieved, Parallax's usefulness would shrink drastically.
Killing it would be a bit of a pity; imprisoning it, a bit of a waste.
Enslaving it was undoubtedly the best method. Whether Parallax was willing to be enslaved, or how it might plot to rebel, was of secondary importance.
If he couldn't even subdue and suppress Parallax, that would be too much of a failure. The one who should be reflecting would be Tony himself.
"Create the Yellow Power Battery immediately. Optimus Prime and Hal each need a Yellow Lantern Ring," Tony commanded.
Immediately after, a large chunk of flesh was brutally sliced from Parallax's body. The dispersing fear energy was extremely dense, and accompanied by Parallax's screams, it was quite unsettling.
"I need someone to go inside and accept the corrosion of fear," said Sai Tianjiao.
Tony nodded and calmly walked toward the vast expanse of yellow energy sweeping toward him. A violent tremor erupted, surrounding Tony, the sole living being, before slowly converging.
Tony silently experienced the fear. It was a highly destructive emotion, yet he was now personally mastering it.
Scenes from the past surfaced, and every shred of anxiety about the future was magnified. Tony calmly observed the images in his mind until all the fearful emotions exploded, completely enveloping him and forming a golden cocoon.
Inside, hidden from outsiders' view, fear was being madly compressed in Tony's hands, with his spirit as its core, moving according to the specific laws of the Emotional Spectrum.
For the first time, Tony was this close to the Emotional Spectrum, within arm's reach. He watched with his own eyes as a multi-colored, endless curtain descended, sometimes colliding, sometimes mixing until they were indistinguishable.
When the vibrant colors slowly faded, everything returned to normal. In Tony's hand, a Power Battery had appeared at some unknown point.
It was about half a meter long, a rectangular prism in shape. On its exposed face was a trophy-like structure at its core.
The Fear Power Battery was formed.
The cocoon shattered completely and was absorbed by the Central Power Battery. When the last wisp of fear dissipated, the Yellow Power Battery held in Tony's hand became incredibly quiet.
"It's done. Simpler than I thought."
Tony lifted the Power Battery, placed it on the ground with a thud, and said somewhat nonchalantly, "Begin forging the Yellow Lantern Rings immediately. I need a Lantern Corps that belongs to Cybertron."
Everyone present nodded solemnly, their eyes fixed on the impressive-looking Power Battery.
