Chapter 601

Chapter 588: Thanos, Death

Author: Great Demon Spirit

In the Cybertron Galaxy, the first planet, and also the one closest to the Sun, has incredibly high temperatures. The daytime temperature can reach five hundred degrees Celsius, while at night, it will drop to negative one hundred seventy-three degrees Celsius.

This was the designated planet of Liege Maximo, the most savage and irritable of The Thirteen Primes.

It was also a massive prison.

Unlike the other Primes, Liege Maximo had no intention of developing the first planet. He was very satisfied with this harsh environment, especially since there was a crippled fellow here to keep him company.

"Thanos, want a drink of lava?"

Liege Maximo, clad in oppressive black armor, casually scooped up a puddle of molten rock from the ground and spoke to the figure in the cage with a twisted grin.

"Oh, I almost forgot. You've lost your limbs and eyes, and you're imprisoned in a cage. You can't drink. Tsk, tsk, tsk, how pitiful."

Liege Maximo grinned menacingly as he tossed the lava through the gaps in the cage, where it landed on Thanos with a sizzling sound.

Liege Maximo nodded in satisfaction.

Torturing Thanos was one of his few pleasures.

He plopped down onto the ground. Scalding lava flowed past, but it couldn't cause the slightest harm to his powerful body.

Liege Maximo stared at the massive cage opposite him, forged from True Adamantium, and at Thanos lying inside, motionless on the ground like a dead dog.

Thanos's limbs had been severed by Tony. Imprisoned on this hellish planet, Liege Maximo was ordered to guard him, torturing him whenever he felt like it.

Thanos's eyes had been gouged out by Liege Maximo.

Inside the cage, after a deathly silence, the body that lay as still as a corpse suddenly trembled. Thanos struggled to lift his head. His shattered face turned toward Liege Maximo, his eye sockets pitch black with red blood slowly trickling out.

Though he had no eyes, anyone could feel that Thanos was indeed "looking" at the being outside the cage.

"Why don't you speak? Hehehe, I haven't gotten around to cutting out your tongue yet. If you're always so silent, I'll really have no choice but to cut it out."

Liege Maximo's face was filled with mockery. His vicious expression did nothing to hide his malice and savagery.

In Liege Maximo's eyes, the cosmic tyrant Thanos was nothing more than an animal to be humiliated at will.

Another volcano erupted, spewing lava high into the sky that then came crashing down. This was a common occurrence on the first planet. The hostile environment would make anyone shrink back in fear.

But no one would believe that the long-disappeared Thanos was actually penned up here so miserably.

Thanos kept his head raised, silently staring at Liege Maximo. There was no killing intent, no rage, only endless indifference.

Suddenly, he cracked a smile.

Thanos laughed silently.

Liege Maximo was somewhat surprised, but more so, alarmed. "What are you laughing at?"

"I'm laughing at how pathetic you are."

"Pathetic?"

"At a single word from Tony, you have no choice but to stay in this godforsaken place with me. Isn't that pathetic?" Thanos said in a chilling voice.

"No, no, no, I don't think so at all," Liege Maximo sneered. "This was my choice, and I am more than happy to take on the job of watching over you."

"You chose this willingly?" Thanos seemed a bit surprised.

"Of course. Unlike you, I am at least an independent individual. I have no strings on me."

"But in my eyes, the strings on you are impossible to break."

"That's only in your eyes, which is why you've fallen to your current state," Liege Maximo laughed coldly.

Thanos fell silent. After a long moment, he grinned ferociously. "You're right. I should also think about how to break the strings on me."

Liege Maximo shot to his feet. Numerous cannons deployed and began to charge frantically as he said in a cold voice, "You can't break free!"

Thanos merely gave him a cold sneer, and then his head exploded like a watermelon.

His life had never been in his own hands; it was always in the hands of Death. When Death needed him, he had to go, whether he was willing or not.

Liege Maximo's expression instantly darkened, looking quite ugly, but he didn't make any superfluous moves. It would be useless.

"As expected..."

Liege Maximo murmured, looking at the huge cage. He suddenly felt a wave of boredom and sat back down on the ground.

"At this critical moment, this chess piece, Thanos, is still useful," Liege Maximo sneered.

Previously, Thanos had repeatedly come to get himself killed. These seemingly redundant probes had all been observed by Death.

Death had set her sights on Tony, and it was about time to make a move.

Tony had once told Liege Maximo that Death's most powerful weapon was the all-purpose Thanos. As a mutant who had broken through to his perfect form, Thanos possessed the ability to bear any known power, making him the best vessel and also the cheapest individual who could be mass-produced.

Death, much like the Kryptonian God Rao, wanted to single-handedly create a controllable and powerful weapon—one that possessed incredible plasticity and potential for growth.

The difference was, Superman broke free from Rao's control, but Thanos had not.

If Death could use Thanos to seize Tony's achievements and single-handedly forge a quasi-unique god, then Death would have succeeded.

Liege Maximo couldn't manage matters of this level, nor could he interfere. He was still too weak.

"No one can pull a tooth from a tiger's mouth. No matter how big the pliers are, you're destined to lose a hand," Liege Maximo said calmly, sitting on the ground.

He had immense confidence in his own Creator.

...

At the same time, a brand new Thanos appeared before Death.

"Is it time to use me?" Thanos stood as firm as a mountain, gazing at the myriad stars in the sky, and spoke indifferently.

"Haven't I always been using you? I have always been by your side, it's just that you've disappointed me time and time again."

Death stood on her tiptoes, gently lifted Thanos's chin, and let out a shrill laugh.

"This time, you must not disappoint me, Thanos. As long as you succeed, you will become a God, and you will be with me forever," Death cackled.

A flicker of emotion passed through Thanos's eyes before he finally nodded. "If that is your wish, I am willing to achieve it for you."

"Do you know what to do?" Death asked.

Thanos shook his head.

"You were killed by Tony five times. Because of that, I know everything about him. Therefore, I will send you over at the most critical moment to seize the 'divinity' Tony has just formed," Death said.

"I am not his match."

"No, Thanos, you will surely win. Tony has no idea what will happen during this process. You will not be interfered with in any way. You will easily obtain what I desire."

Death's skeletal face was revealed, her jaw clicking open and shut.

Thanos paused for a moment before saying apathetically, "Understood." He then continued to gaze at the myriad stars, and no one knew what he was thinking.

Some thoughts he had never had before flooded his mind. He began to doubt the meaning of his own existence.
