Chapter 679: Interstellar Annihilation (2)
2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit
When Fortress Maximus unleashed its might, it was nothing short of catastrophic.
An entire super city transformed into Fortress Maximus. Every part of its body could turn into countless killing tools, and all the city's resources and energy became part of its being. Coupled with its boundless size, it was enough to rampage through billions of bugs.
“I am Fortress Maximus!”
Fortress Maximus roared, his massive body lights illuminating. Rings of terrifying energy burst forth, and even a sliver of residual energy, projected far away, could shatter large masses of bugs into dust.
After their initial agitation, the Annihilation Insectoids immediately revealed their ferocity. These large green bugs charged fearlessly, swarming Fortress Maximus and tearing at him wildly. Some bugs, skilled in various abilities, also launched different attacks at Fortress Maximus.
But it was all useless.
Ultra Magnus, seated within Fortress Maximus’s body, coldly watched Fortress Maximus’s rampage, his gaze icy and devoid of any emotion.
Countless bugs were crushed under Fortress Maximus’s attacks, as numerous Transformers systematically retreated into Fortress Maximus’s body.
With a massive explosion, a crater a thousand meters deep was formed. Fortress Maximus unleashed a torrent of cannon fire, easily slaughtering tens of millions of bugs, then decisively retreated.
Space Bridges opened in multiple corners of the planet, gathering the warriors to return to Cybertron. Fortress Maximus soared high, with a hundred thousand warriors safely contained within him. Fortress Maximus then directly chose to destroy the planet.
With a deafening bang, the earth cracked, the earth's core exploded, and flames erupted. This planet, long ravaged and scarred by war, completely disintegrated into the dust of the universe, and vast numbers of bugs were annihilated alongside it.
A massive swirling light construct appeared precisely, devouring Fortress Maximus and instantly transporting him to Cybertron. Numerous enraged bugs shrieked and buzzed, swarming wildly, but only struck empty air.
The immense sparks and tragic remains bore witness to how brutal this month-long great war had been.
Yet, a mere one or two hundred million casualties were insignificant to the colossal insectoids.
They weren't unfamiliar with defeat; in the Andromeda Galaxy, while the Annihilation Insectoids' situation looked promising, they had also suffered many losses. The maddened Skrulls were not so easy to deal with.
After suffering fifty thousand warrior casualties, the Transformer Legion returned to Cybertron. Without a moment to enjoy peace, these soldiers, seasoned by battle, were immediately disbanded from their original units and assigned as low-ranking military officers to forty million newly formed Transformer Legions.
As mentioned before, while Transformers possess a distinct racial advantage, with their Central Processors and bodies showing extremely high talent for combat, this doesn't mean every one of them is as mentally stable as an old dog or as fierce as a wolf. There are also those who are timid and cowardly.
This has nothing to do with the number of combat skills they've mastered; it's purely related to their experience and life lessons.
These one and a half million who had seen battle had undoubtedly undergone a transformation in their mindset and perspective, making it the best decision to have them lead the new recruits.
Everyone knew this war was merely an insignificant appetizer; sooner or later, they would wage a grander war against the Annihilation Insectoids that swept across many galaxies.
As the Annihilation Insectoids bared their fangs, their terrifying scale and endless emergence of new bug types had become the primary archenemy of many powerful races. The Skrulls, who had dominated the universe for millions of years, were beaten so badly they couldn't even lift their heads, which was enough to prove how terrifying these bugs were.
“The Skrulls have suffered heavy losses. Without the help of foreign aid like the Kree, they would have lost long ago.”
The young and reckless Hot Rod hurriedly sought out Ultra Magnus to report the latest battle situation.
Ultra Magnus’s expression remained unchanged. He glanced at Hot Rod, then let out a cold laugh, “Not playing with your time-stasis gun anymore?”
Hot Rod scratched his head, “Even the best gun needs to be used to kill enemies.”
Hot Rod’s intentions were, of course, no secret to Ultra Magnus. However, Ultra Magnus didn’t care about such things. He looked at the impetuous Hot Rod, “I will assign you to the Wreckers. Go learn from those veterans how to rein in your reckless and thoughtless temper!”
“The Wreckers? Is the captain that rigid Pinpointer?” Hot Rod’s face fell, revealing deep disappointment, but he immediately replaced it with a glimmer of hope, “Just assign me to a regular unit; I can handle hardship.”
Ultra Magnus patted his shoulder affectionately, “Precisely because you can handle hardship, you should be assigned to the Wreckers. Don’t die, soldier.”
Hot Rod walked away, greatly disappointed.
Ultra Magnus watched Hot Rod’s retreating back, pulling up the corner of his mouth noncommittally, as if smiling.
Hot Rod was a new generation he highly valued. Courage, awareness, sacrifice, dedication – Hot Rod lacked none of these excellent qualities. Only his recklessness was extremely problematic.
Recklessness easily leads to trouble, a flaw that the strict Ultra Magnus found unacceptable.
After seeing Hot Rod off, Ultra Magnus refocused his attention on the war. His fingers unconsciously tapped the table, a habit he had picked up from Tony. Now, whenever Ultra Magnus thought, he liked to make this harmless little gesture.
Overall, the most intense battlefront was the Andromeda Galaxy, where brutal great wars frequently erupted, often with casualties exceeding a hundred million – although most of the dead were Annihilation Insectoids, the Annihilation Insectoids feared attrition warfare the least, but the Skrulls could not afford it.
The entire Skrull Empire only had a population of 30 billion. Each death was one less, and once their population was depleted, their war potential would be exhausted, leaving them to await death.
If it weren't for the Kree ruler, Supreme Intelligence, reacting quickly – it, which had been at great war with the Skrulls just a moment ago, immediately announced an alliance to resist the Annihilation Insectoids – the Skrulls would likely have suffered even greater losses and might have been completely overwhelmed by the momentum-fueled Annihilation Insectoids.
“Forty million soldiers… that’s still not enough. If Level Seven powerhouses don’t intervene, and we're forced into an all-out war of attrition, we'll need at least ten times that many troops.”
Ultra Magnus connected with the War Staff Department and began discussions with Shockwave and others. That’s what the War Staff Department was for.
“In terms of soldiers, time is on our side. As long as we have time, we can have as many as we need,” Shockwave said. “Below Level Seven, we have nothing to fear. But if those above Level Seven make a move, the war's progression will accelerate unprecedentedly, and its scale will exceed the War Staff Department’s control. However, the scales will tip in our favor.”
They were well aware that when it came to sheer numbers, the most terrifying entity was not the Annihilation Insectoids, but Tony himself.
With a stomp of his foot, billions of planets across the entire Milky Way Galaxy would instantly transform into armories. Massive numbers of puppet Transformers would continuously emerge from production lines and be deployed to the frontline battlefields.
