Chapter 292: The Great Krypto Contemplates the Meaning of Dog Life

Author: Great Demon Spirit

The streets bustled with people. The rapidly developing metropolis was enough to provide more and more people with opportunities for a better life.

Every minute of every day, countless people poured into the city, searching for their own opportunities.

Of course, the same was true for dogs.

A pure white dog, looking quite adorable with an appearance similar to a Labrador, had a pair of ears resting lazily on its head.

"Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah..."

It habitually stuck out its tongue to pant, then immediately stopped, a look of confusion in its eyes.

Why did it always stick its tongue out by habit? Was this for... dissipating heat?

The white dog fell into deep thought. Within its intelligent canine eyes, a profound contemplation on the meaning of dog life surprisingly appeared, full of human-like character.

Its own gene was incredibly advanced. Even on Krypton, a planet teeming with powerful beings, it was a rare high-level gene. It could even control every inch of its skin, releasing its body heat through countless pores.

There was no need to pant with its tongue out; that method of heat dissipation was too primitive, too backward.

But... it actually felt pretty good?

"Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah..."

The little white dog stuck its tongue out once more, panting joyfully.

It was a dog, anyway. A dog panting—was there a problem with that? Was there?

This couldn't be helped. Even it didn't actually know that it was just a postnatally gene-augmented creature. Before its augmentation, it had truly been an ordinary puppy from Earth...

Unlike other Kryptonians, it wasn't an artificial product created in cultivation pods from spliced genes. Instead, it was a creature personally augmented by Krypton's chief scientist, Jor-El, who had spliced a rare high-level gene from Krypton into it.

Jor-El had set his sights on Earth long ago, laying out his plans there. The little white dog, possessing the genes of an Earth dog, was one of his many contingency plans. He had even gone so far as to madly stuff Krypton's precious high-level gene into the body of a dog.

A high-level gene was rare even on Krypton. Its gene was even on the same level as that of the commander-in-chief of the Kryptonian Army—General Zod.

A powerful, high-level-gene dog.

Super speed, super strength, super hearing, super vision, X-Ray Vision, and Heat Vision—everything a Kryptonian could do, it could do, and it could do it better than the vast majority of Kryptonians.

Of course, it also inevitably inherited the Kryptonians' racial weakness.

A fear of Kryptonite and, more universally common throughout the universe, magic.

The little white dog panted, drenched in sweat. Even its white fur was soaked, completely saturated with perspiration.

To some passersby whose gazes were drawn to it, the dog looked as if it had just been pulled out of the water.

It ignored the humans who occasionally tried to play with it. These creatures were too fragile. The little white dog was worried that with the slightest exertion of force, it would knock them dead.

Even in its current listless state, it was more than an ordinary human could handle.

It looked up at the sky. The blessing of the Yellow Sun was constantly replenishing its precious energy.

But what was even more terrifying than the Yellow Sun were the powerful and dreadful magic arrays active all over this planet.

It had sensed it while still in space—this small blue planet emanated a suffocating threat. The constantly surging and brewing magic power, every single particle of magic, even from a distance, could cause the Kryptonian cells in its body to contract violently, leading to a massive loss of energy.

This was a fact that could make a dog break down. A single particle of magic caused widespread aversion and discomfort among its cells. Not to mention, every inch of the air was beginning to be permeated with dense magic particles.

The Kryptonian dog's body became incredibly fragile. The magic power spreading everywhere formed an absolute, hierarchical suppression over its body.

This feeling of powerlessness was terrible, especially when it was basking under the Yellow Sun while simultaneously being insanely weakened by the damned magic power.

Replenishing and draining at the same time—it was an awful feeling.

But this was still considered good. It remembered many years ago, back on Krypton, when Jor-El had brought out a shimmering green stone that nearly killed it on the spot.

The green light had stripped it of all its superpowers in an instant, making it weaker than a roadside weed. Just by placing the stone nearby, it couldn't even move.

It was as if its body's gene was being destroyed. Its light-absorbing cells were rapidly depleting. Death was only a matter of time.

Although the magic power weakened it, making it feel irritable and uncomfortable, it was far more bearable compared to the green stone.

"Hah-hah-hah-hah-hah..."

The Kryptonian dog looked at the sky again. This entire planet was covered by magic arrays, and the blessing of the Yellow Sun was also significantly weakened.

*Plop!*

A compassionate young beauty tossed a sausage over—thoughtfully peeling off the casing first.

The little white dog took a deep sniff. Its weakened sense of smell was still far superior to that of other dogs. The sausage emitted an aromatic scent that was fatally tempting.

*Gulp~*

The little white dog swallowed its saliva, its face a mask of drooling desire. Then, it immediately stopped itself.

It was a high-level being from Krypton, filled with a majestic aura and a noble stature! How could it accept being fed by these feeble humans?

Its doggy eyes gradually narrowed as it contemplated the meaning of dog life.

How could a high-level being accept food from a primitive? It was a disgrace!

A stain on its dog life!

It must not compromise! It must not yield!

I am a noble Kryptonian dog! I have traversed countless galaxies, passed by legions of interstellar civilizations, and descended upon this backward planet with the bearing of a celestial, radiant as the morning sun, to spread the blessings of the great Krypto!

The little white dog named Krypto wore a solemn expression, its gaze as deep and ancient as a black hole.

It sat on its two hind legs, its front legs straight, posing majestically as it scrutinized these foolish two-legged beasts.

*Sniff, sniff...*

Its nose twitched.

So fragrant...

*Gulp.* It swallowed its saliva.

"What's with this little dog? It's so clean, it doesn't look like a stray," the little girl in red who had thrown the sausage said thoughtfully.

"But it's not wearing a dog tag. According to the regulations, that makes it a stray..."

"Does anyone own it? If not, I'm taking it home to adopt. Poor little thing."

The passersby gradually gathered, looking with pity at the petite, desperately drooling great Krypto.

Finally, the little white dog couldn't take it anymore. With a surprisingly loud "Awoo!" that startled the passersby, it lunged like a hungry tiger... no, like a hungry dog pouncing on a sausage, with frightening speed.

"What a strong dog! It could rival one of those fighting dogs!"

The passersby were startled, their gazes becoming even more fervent.

*Slurp, slurp...*

"Woof! (Delicious!)"

*Nom, nom, nom.*

After finishing, it stuck out its tongue to lick its chops. Looking at the human who had provided the food, it subconsciously began to wag its tail furiously.

Then, just as quickly, it froze, its whole body stiffening. Once again, it began to contemplate the meaning of dog life.

Why... am I wagging my tail at a human?

The emotion of confusion flashed through its bright, spirited eyes and was gone.

The little girl in red reached out with a fair, delicate hand and placed it directly on the head of the great Krypto. Her face was full of affection. Already charming, she now radiated an even more astonishing allure, as if the whole world had brightened.

The next second, before the great Krypto could get angry, it was swept up and held. The beauty in red stroked its head and said, "I don't know who abandoned you, but it doesn't matter. From now on, you're my, Wanda Maximoff's, pet!"

Wanda lifted the dumbfounded Krypto high into the air, her alluring face filled with joy. "tony's Family needs a cute pet, too!"
