Chapter 379

Chapter 369: The Panicked Watchers and the Stubborn Wa Tu

Author: Great Demon Spirit

Trigon's approach shocked the entire universe.

Countless people went into a frenzy, digging through dusty, ancient tomes to find any record of Trigon.

The ancient beings who had existed since the universe's inception were, at this very moment, on the verge of going completely mad.

"No, no! No, how can this be? How can he so brazenly attack a universe that has nothing to do with him?!"

"There's nothing special about this universe! We don't have any nascent Powerhouses here that could possibly pose a threat to the beings of the Sphere of the Gods! So why is Trigon coming?! Why?!"

"It's over. Everything is over! We're dead!"

Ancient organizations let out anguished cries, filled with resentment and regret.

If they had known this would happen, they would have found a way to escape sooner. The Multiverse is vast; surely there was a place for them to hide. At worst, they could have found a newborn universe and remained high and mighty there.

The Watcher race, stationed in this universe, was the first to observe Trigon's arrival, and they were utterly shocked.

The Watchers were an extremely ancient race, with members present in every universe—innumerable. Their mission was to record the major events that occurred in each universe, but they would never interfere with the process.

Whether a universe was born or destroyed, their race, true to its name, was only responsible for observing and recording.

But upon observing Trigon's terrifying figure outside the universe, even the unflappable Watchers began to panic.

"Go! We must abandon this universe immediately! Leave this place!"

"That's right, this universe is doomed. With our race's technology, forget the Multiverse, no one in the entire Omni-Sphere World can stop us from escaping."

"You're wrong about that. If Trigon was determined to destroy us, we wouldn't be able to run. But we still have time. We must depart immediately. Board the Warship and leave!"

A group of beings with large heads and small bodies broke into a clamorous argument.

Of course, "small bodies" was relative. To Earthlings, they were still Giants over ten meters tall.

The ones with nimble hands had already activated the Warship's operating system, ready to flee across universes at a moment's notice.

"Wa Tu, what are you doing? This universe is doomed! Trigon is a madman! Come with us, quickly! We can easily find a new universe to observe. If worst comes to worst, we can ask our kin in other universes for help!" one of the Watchers admonished.

Wa Tu was the Watcher responsible for the region around Earth, silently recording the changes on Earth and its surrounding, vast starfields.

He was the same one who had brazenly entered the Dark Dimension to observe the battle during the previous campaign against Dormammu.

Wa Tu shook his head, his flat, large head looking slightly comical. He pondered for a moment before speaking, "This universe still needs someone to record it... even its final explosion needs to be recorded."

"Are you insane?! This is different from before! It's Trigon who's coming!" One Watcher was nearly frantic, completely unable to comprehend Wa Tu's reasoning.

"Perhaps a miracle will occur," Wa Tu said, a figure flashing through his mind as he fell silent.

His mind stored a vast sea of knowledge, possessing insight that surpassed the vast majority of multiversal life. That multiversal being who possessed a Singularity item and had left such a deep impression on him... perhaps...

Of course, it was also possible that person had recklessly fled this universe, only to foolishly plunge headfirst into the Blood Realm and be ground to death by its viscous energy.

The "Blood Realm" between universes was an incredibly terrifying thing.

Wa Tu himself was hesitating, wavering, but the sense of duty from his instincts and his stubborn personality made him unwilling to leave just like that.

It was precisely because the one coming was Trigon that this opportunity to observe was so incredibly precious!

How many living Watchers could claim to have recorded the power of a visitor from the Sphere of the Gods? And who could record the Projection of such a Being?

Wa Tu felt he was going mad too, but he just wanted to try.

Perhaps, at the moment of the universe's destruction, he could still pilot his spaceship and escape.

"Wa Tu, remember your duty. This kind of destructive catastrophe is beyond what we Watchers can interfere with. That is the duty of the Monitor Race."

One Watcher suppressed his anger and tried to persuade him earnestly.

"But the Monitor Race vanished long ago!" Wa Tu retorted. "They are nowhere to be found on the cosmic dome. Perhaps the Prime Monitor recalled them..."

The Monitors (DC Comics) had a similar duty to the Watchers (Marvel Universe), but with some differences. Each universe had only one Monitor, responsible for monitoring the changes within the universe while also keeping an eye on the changes in the Blood Realm outside.

But overnight, all the Monitors vanished. People speculate that the Prime Monitor must have recalled them.

After all, every Monitor is merely something created from the Prime Monitor's shed skin and hair.

"Even if the Monitor Race doesn't get involved, that's the Living Tribunal's responsibility! Let the Living Tribunal deal with Trigon. It has nothing to do with us! You're committing suicide!"

"Don't try to fool me. The Living Tribunal won't intervene in this kind of matter; he can't manage it anyway. He has a mountain of issues in the Sphere of the Gods to deal with. How could he have time for the Omni-Sphere World?" Wa Tu stubbornly shook his head, his enormous, round head bobbing like a pellet drum.

The other Watchers cursed a few more times before leaving in their spaceship.

What Wa Tu was doing was suicide, and they wanted no part in it.

At most, they would pilot their spaceship to a position in the Blood Realm not far from this universe, conceal their presence, and quietly observe the afterglow of the great cosmic explosion.

The slowly flowing energy of the Blood Realm would effectively conceal their spaceship's presence.

They would sit aboard their ship, sipping delightful beverages, and leisurely record the images spilling out from the universe's explosion. Those were images of past events, transmitting outward at the turtle-like pace of light speed, only to be ultimately crushed and destroyed by the energy within the vast Blood Realm.

The spaceship's trail vanished in an instant. With their top-tier technology, millennia ahead of the universe's, they could jump out of this universe in just a few hours.

Wa Tu stood alone in the Watcher race's base. The advanced, spacious facility was now empty save for him. He was calm. He walked silently to an advanced instrument, preparing to activate it and head to the Agalas Sanctuary.

If Trigon was destined to destroy this place, then he would be the one to record this universe's final blaze of glory.

And its final madness.

Wa Tu's expression was placid. Life and death were no longer important to him. An obsession and stubbornness that stemmed from the very marrow of his bones made him willing to risk his life to record the final twilight of this world.

This could be considered... the last thing he could do for this world.

After all, this was his home... a home where he had lived for billions of years.
