Chapter 459: Look What I Found!
2022-10-19 Author: Great Demon Spirit
The Red Racer of Central City, The Flash, Barry Allen.
Having just dealt with a rampaging super-gorilla, he carried it and ran directly to the African continent.
In an instant, with a speed eighty times that of sound, he ran across half the African continent. Using a pattern of horizontal traverses and vertical shifts, he easily found Gorilla City.
If an ordinary person had tried to search this way, they would have died from exhaustion.
"Dr. Harrison, I've delivered Grodd to Gorilla City," Barry said, pressing his ear and speaking through the communicator in his mask.
"Good, Barry. Drop him at the entrance immediately. Don't get involved, and come back right away."
Through the communicator, the gentle voice of Dr. Harrison Wells came through, calm and unhurried. He always possessed a power that could put people at ease, time and again helping a wavering Barry Allen out of his predicaments.
In Barry's heart, Dr. Harrison was one of the people he trusted most, as well as his most respected life mentor.
Harrison helped him grow stronger step by step, become a superhero step by step, and become the trusted guardian of Central City's people.
Of course, all of this was bullshit.
Harrison Wells had been killed long ago. This Harrison, who was pretending to be crippled, was none other than the Reverse-Flash, The Flash's mortal enemy.
"But... is it okay to just leave him here? Will the other gorillas accept this stranger?"
"Don't forget, Grodd possesses powerful psychic abilities and an extremely high intellect. Communicating with the other gorillas won't be a problem. I believe his performance will surprise everyone. He was born to be the king here."
Harrison said, suppressing his true feelings and using a heartwarming voice.
Heartwarming... Heartwarming my ass!
Every day, he dreamt of killing The Flash!
But reality forced him to endure, to constantly endure, and even to act as a disgusting life mentor, helping the naive Flash grow stronger to make it easier for him to steal the Speed Force and return home.
This feeling... was driving the Reverse Flash insane!
More than once, Harrison had raised his hand, using a little bit of the Speed Force to make his palm vibrate at high speed, turning it into a blade that could cut through any matter, and secretly aimed it at Barry's head.
Then, he would have to suppress his killing intent and resentment and stop.
The Flash was the source. Without The Flash, he had no way to collect the Speed Force and no way to travel through the timeline to get home.
Barry hesitated for a moment, then decided to follow the guidance of the respected Dr. Harrison and dropped the gorilla, Grodd, onto the ground.
"Harrison, it looks like there's a war up north. Do you think I should..."
"No! Barry, you can't go there!"
In Central City, at S.T.A.R. Labs, Harrison couldn't help but grip the armrests of his wheelchair. The light reflecting off his glasses concealed the sudden sinister look in his eyes.
Immediately after, he returned to normal.
Cisco, his assistant and inventor, and Caitlin, the biologist and pharmacologist, exchanged a worried glance.
It wasn't that they suspected Dr. Harrison; it was normal for Dr. Harrison to worry about Barry. They were worried because they knew what was happening in northern Africa.
Their technology could easily hack into satellites and see the battle situation in Wakanda.
Up north, there was someone Barry could not afford to provoke.
"Listen, Barry, you're a good kid, and your heart is filled with justice..." Harrison said persuasively, suppressing his disgust.
"But what's happening up north is now a matter between nations. Don't forget who you are. You are a guardian of civilians, a person hated by super-criminals, but you are absolutely not a warrior fighting in a war between countries! Remember that!"
"Harrison, I know, but a lot of civilians will die in the war... and those robots shouldn't be attacking a sovereign nation..." Barry was conflicted.
"That is not something you should interfere with, Barry! You're a superhero, not a super-soldier or something else!" Harrison said. "The Avengers have remained silent until now, S.H.I.E.L.D. is only closely monitoring the situation's development, and the World Security Council is simply pretending not to know. Do you know why?"
"It's simple. First of all, Wakanda has never been a part of the human world's system. They are isolated from the rest of the world and have never interacted with the outside world. All laws that apply in the outside world are invalid in Wakanda."
"Second, whether it's the Avengers or S.H.I.E.L.D., they have no reason to stop those robots, because this has escalated to a war at the national level. It's not a fight between some superhero and a super-criminal!"
"If they wanted to interfere, they should have stepped up when the Military first attacked Wakanda. When the Military was ravaging the Middle East, they should have been the first to stand up against the Military, destroy their bases, and attack their soldiers."
"But you know that's impossible. The Avengers would never make a move against the Military."
Harrison patiently explained, his words shattering Barry's still-forming, naive worldview.
This was also the bloody side of superheroes, hidden beneath their glamorous exterior.
They are superheroes for the civilians, not superheroes for a particular country. If they break this rule, they are no longer superheroes, because they would have participated in a war between nations, becoming a sharp blade and a tool in the hands of one side.
The Military ravaged the Middle East and attacked North Africa. Countless civilians were bleeding and dying. When did the Avengers ever step up?
When did S.H.I.E.L.D. ever step up?
Harrison knew even better that after Barry joined the Justice League in the future, the Justice League would be the same, naturally turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to certain things, acting as if nothing had happened.
Even the paragon of justice, Superman, rarely interfered with things he shouldn't touch. That would only make them increasingly passive.
This was very important. Harrison didn't want The Flash he had so painstakingly "nurtured" to die just like that, all because the one attacking Wakanda was that ruthless man, Tony.
Moreover, Harrison still hadn't figured out where Tony's limits were. He really didn't want to provoke Tony.
In the timeline he came from, a person like Tony simply didn't exist. Perhaps it was because he had traveled back, causing the timeline to change.
He just wanted to go home, and he didn't have the ability to kill this anomaly, Tony. So he might as well play the ostrich, gather enough Speed Force, and then quickly get the hell out.
Mm, and while he was at it, he'd kill The Flash. He really wanted to see the look on The Flash's face before he died, after learning the truth.
Barry's naive worldview was violently shaken. For a moment, he fell silent, not knowing what to say.
Just as Harrison had said, a superhero is only a superhero for the civilians, and must never become the superhero of a specific country.
"I..." Barry was a little lost.
Cisco took over the mic and said quickly, "Alright, buddy, just come back first. We can talk about this slowly... Wait, what is this signal? Look what I found! Something's coming!"
